Alappuzha (also known as Alleppey), India - The Backwaters of Kerala are one of the biggest draws to Kerala, and before going, I had no idea why. After visiting, I now know that the Backwaters are one of the reasons why Kerala is known as “God’s Own Country.”

After arriving in Alappuzha (Alleppey), we headed straight to the house-boat, a luxurious floating house-boat on the Kerala backwaters. The boat was beautiful with four full bedrooms, a full upper deck with dining room and viewing platform, and most importantly, a huge kitchen with private chefs to cook us an Indian seafood Kerala meal of your dreams! #IndianFood #Kerala #Backwaters

Ebbin had arranged for a huge seafood meal on the boat. As soon as we started sailing on the Backwaters, the amazing chefs started cooking. There were over a dozen different dishes, seafood extravaganza. The meal was absolutely incredible, and the scenery of the water, lakes, rivers, and lagoons, were spectacular.

For the rest of the afternoon, we relaxed around the boat, and eventually docked for the evening in a small village. For dinner we had a simple Kerala meal of rice porridge, with a few different chutneys, and green gram, mung beans.

Sleeping on the boat was fantastic, so quiet and peaceful, and it was a joy to wake up in the morning ready to go again. For breakfast, they made one of the best egg curries I’ve ever had in my life - one of the reasons I love Kerala so much, curry for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Thank you to Alleppey Houseboat ( for giving us a great deal on a house-boat, and for the amazing food and service. An incredible experience, and truly God's Own Country!

The Backwaters of Alappuzha (Alleppey) is located in the South Indian state of Kerala. It is a popular tourist destination where people spend a day or two in houseboats and enjoy the pristine natural beauty. Aleppey is considered to be the oldest city of Kerala and is often known as the Venice Of The East. The reason for this name is of course, due to so much interconnecting water highways and the number of boats. There are thousands of boats in Alappuzha and they come in all sizes.

The backwaters of Kerala are a chain of lagoons, and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian sea coast. The backwaters consist of 5 large lakes linked by canals and fed by 38 different rivers. This forms almost 560 miles of waterways, spanning to almost half of Kerala. Such a vast waterway network is convenient for tourists to travel in houseboats, while conveniently wining and dining.

India's Most Luxurious Resorts E04 - Kumarakom Lake Resort | Kerala

In April 2019, I had the chance to visit one of India's most luxurious resorts - Kumarakom Lake Resort.

In this video I am going to be sharing my experiences and impressions of staying at this five star luxury hotel in Kerala

We stayed for 2 days here and loved every minute of it. The resort is located very close to Kochi and the airport. We stayed at the meandering pool villa, where you can just walk into the pool directly from your room.

The resort sits facing west on the vembanad lake and it is the perfect place to enjoy sunsets.

We got some amazing drone views and videos of Kerala and kumarakom.

It is one of the best five star hotels in Kerala and is definitely up there as on of India's most luxurious resorts. If you want a luxury Kerala trip, then this is the place. And I also think that it is the best honeymoon resort in Kerala.

This video is an early morning walk in the Coconut Lagoon Resort to their Library. We were at Coconut Lagoon Resort, Kumarakom, Kerala, India from 12th June 2014 to 14th June 2014.

Very nice place this, do visit, but stay not more than 2-3 days after that it becomes monotonous!
For bookings DO NOT book through any travel website, rather I suggest book directly from the company website: call their phone number and talk to MR. MINTO there and do your reservations...you will get it much cheaper (we saved almost Rs. 10,000, but then you have to ask for discount on room tariff and lunch/dinner buffet prices).

HOUSEBOAT TOUR Alleppey | Kerala Backwater experience | NO Mad Traveler

The Kerala backwaters is the rather unappealing name given to the peaceful and picturesque palm-lined network of lagoons, lakes, rivers, and canals that run inland from the coast of Kerala, from Kochi (Cochin) to Kollam (Quilon). The main entry point, situated between Kochi and Kollam, is Alleppey. At the heart of the backwaters is vast Vembanad Lake.


Traditionally, the backwaters are used by local people for transport, fishing, and agriculture. Annual snake boat races, held along the backwaters, also provide a great source of entertainment for the locals and tourists alike.


The lush green landscape, diverse wildlife, and houses and villages that line the backwaters make a journey along these waterways seem like a journey through another world. No wonder the backwaters is one of the must-visit tourist places in Kerala. Don't miss it!

Kerala Backwater Tour-Ashtamudi Lake

Kerala was placed among the `50 destinations of a lifetime' by National Geographic Traveler in a special collectors' issue. The Kerala backwaters are very famous, it is a chain of brackish lagoons and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian Sea coast.

The Ashtamudi lake, known as the gateway to the backwaters, covers about 30 per cent of Kollam. Catch a glimpse of one of the many splendors of Ashtamudi backwaters in this video.

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary Review, Kerala, India

This Vlog is about Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, Kumarakom, Kerala.

Located on the banks of the Vembanad Lake, the bird sanctuary is spread across 14 acres. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, an ornithologist's paradise is a favourite haunt of migratory birds like the siberian stork, egret, darter, heron and teal. Developed in a rubber plantation as a bird sanctuary by Englishman George Alfred Baker the sanctuary was formerly known as Baker’s Estate.Two resorts are located in this govt owned land today. One is a private hotel and chain and the other is govt run hotel company KTDC. The Largest hotel chain in Kerala  Kerala Tourism Development Corporation currently manages the sanctuary.

A visit to the bird sanctuary, acquaints you to the variety of migratory birds . In addition, you get to see the native kingfishers ablaze in psychedelic colours, experience a walk under rookeries of egrets and night herons or lone golden-backed woodpeckers.The main attractions are local birds like the waterfowl, cuckoo, owl, egret, heron and the water duck, as well as the migratory Siberian cranes. Parrots, teal, larks, flycatchers, wood beetle, and other birds are seen here during their respective migratory seasons.

REMEMBER THIS IS A SEASONAL BIRD SANCTUARY SO SIGHTING IS LIMITED IN OFF SEASON. BEST TIME TO VISIT IS EARLY MORNING AT 6 AM REGARDLESS OF THE SEASON OR FROM MAY TO JUNE.

People who visit in May- June are treated to many rare sights as that’s the time when the next generation arrives. This is the breeding season of the resident wetland birds such as Indian Darter, Little Cormorant, different species of egrets and herons, White Ibis and several species of kingfishers. People also get to see the waterfowl, cuckoo, owl, water duck, Siberian Cranes, parrots, teal, larks, flycatchers and wood beetles. Boating trips around the sanctuary is extremely relaxing and this is among the most visited places in Kottayam district.

Visiting hours: 06:00 to 18:00 hrs.

Alleppey Houseboats are very popular and preferred by tourists who visit Kerala. Tourists from all over the world come here to spend a day or two relaxing at these house boats. Alleppey aka Alappuzha is perfect for backwater cruise as it is filled with lagoons, beaches, bridges and beautiful coconut & banana trees.

The video shows many Kerala houseboats while sailing and in docked positions and I have also shown you the inside of the house boat. Most houseboats are comfortable, but lack the luxury of a typical star hotel. However, it is a different and exciting experience to spend a day in these houseboats.

I will post a vlog on how to do an Alleppey houseboat trip soon, so you can learn from my mistakes :)
