Dune Climbs: Laketown Township Beach

Former Day in the Park reporter Jeremy Gonsior recently visited this well-known climb along Lake Michigan in Laketown Township. The park can be reached from Holland by taking 32nd Street west to 66th Street. Take a left and travel south to 142nd Avenue. Turn right and the climb begins at the end of the road.

Beautiful Lake Michigan @ Tunnel Park in Holland, Michigan

Just down the road from Holland State Park you'll find my favorite Holland beach at Tunnel Park. This park has it all! Beautiful beach of course, a sand dune to run up and down (just one, the rest are protected), a tunnel through the dunes, a playground, picnic areas, a clean bathroom, water bottle fill station, and a shower. Plus you can still see the lighthouse Big Red if you look to your left on the beach. It was so much fun to splash in the water, chase seagulls, then make a few runs down the dune. We took a quick beach clean walk to pick up trash, always better to leave a place cleaner than you found it. On my last run I had an epic wipeout, so it was time for a shower and a picnic lunch.
