Who We Are:
The preserve is owned and run by Jim Stein and Becky Mace who have raised and cared for all the animals at the preserve. Our wildlife preserve, featuring educational tours and photography sessions, is the only one of its kind in the State of New Jersey. With wolves, foxes, and bobcats, our preserve is the largest in the Northeastern United States. We are in no way affiliated with any Lakota Indian People. We chose the name based on the meaning of the word Lakota. Meaning friend or alliance of friends. Plus one of our first and favorite wolves was named Lakota and it just fit.
OMG, Wolves!

Why am I uploading a video of a street? Take a view and you'll see history unfold! This road seemingly hasn't been touched since the 1950s, with original pavement dating back decades earlier than that. It's part of original NJ 8, replaced by US 46 and NJ 94 but bypassing the historic little town of Columbia.

Karralee B.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Beautiful, woodsy, tranquil
Campsites are nice and large, can hold multiple tents. They request the purchase of another site if you have more then two tents, but then you can put all tents on one site and cook and hang out in the other. We have a beautiful site along the creek, perfect white noise to get a great night sleep.
Very woodsy so you definitely are in the woods. The camp ground is connected to the wolf preserve so you can hear them howl if you listen.
Only bad thing is their general store is more of a gift shop and does not really cater to the needs of a camper. I prefer if I forget something like creamer for my coffee or cups that are not styrofoam I would prefer to walk into the camp store note have to go to Walmart. I’m camping getting away from that.
Anyway I highly recommend this campground for a relaxing kick back and enjoyable, peaceful time! You have to buy their wood you can’t bring any in, they are trying to keep the lantern flies away. $5 bundle for 7 pieces.

Helicopters Over Lakota Wolf Preserve
The owners of a New Jersey wolf preserve say helicopters buzzing overhead are stressing out the animals and causing troublesome behavior.
Under peaceful circumstances, the wolves of Lakota Wolf preserve are free to howl and roam but owner James Stein says they are reacting very differently to helicopters flying overhead. It was hovering there and the animals were very stressed out, he says.
Stein believes better weather is bringing out aerial nature photographers.
The preserve sits on about 12 acres with four enclosures where the wolves are free to roam, but when a chopper is overhead they feel like there's nowhere to hide.
On the preserve's Facebook page, the helicopter issue has prompted hundreds of comments on how to deal with them but Stein is taking the civil approach. We reached out to some local airports and some local tour guides and sent them nice letters saying if you're touring the preserve to please stop. It's stressing out the animals, he says.
The FAA says it does not have the authority to prohibit flights over areas like the preserve but if they were given tail numbers the helicopters could be encouraged to fly higher.
Stein says he'll keep an eye out, but his first priority isn't watching the sky, it's watching his wolves.

Is this a Black Bear Print?
I took this video June 2, 2012, at Batsto Village Park in Wharton State Forest, South Jersey. I was told that there had been three bear sightings in the past week, the last one on June 1, 2012. I was told where the last sighting occured, near the intersection of the blue and white trail. I headed out, and found this print, and another in the next video ,Is this a Black Bear Print? Part 2 I am hoping that some animal tracker, hunter, or wildlife expert might be able to make heads or tales of these prints.
After taking pictures and video, I followed the tracks down the trail. The tracks were now just disturbances in the damp, compacted leaves, but they led me to a drainage pipe that is buried under the trail to allow runoff from the rain to flow into Lake Batsto. It was at this point the tracks veered uphill and into the thinned out growth and damp ground. The tracks did not return to continue down the trail back to the parking lot. The tracks in the two videos were the most distinct ones. It was hard to make out any sort of well defined imprint in the leafy trail, as it is hiked by many.

The Island Beach Foxes
My story on the fox at IBSP from last week. Warning! Cuteness Overload!
Visitors of Island Beach State Park are getting a little worried about the fox population on the island. Some feel the foxes are getting a little too familiar with the people.
It was once quite rare to see a fox on the island, but when News 12 New Jersey's Ranji Sinha went to visit, the foxes were plentiful.
A column on the Friends of Island Beach State Park website says the fox population seems to have grown since the early 2000s.
Superstorm Sandy seems to have also added to the population. When food was thrown out post-Sandy, the foxes came along to feast.
The NJ DEP did not have anyone available to comment on the size or health of the fox population in Island Beach State Park. The Friends of Island Beach State Park warn that people should not feed the foxes.

These include preservation, digitization, cataloging, reference services, event and training opportunities on core information services and access to existing federal resources in legal and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) knowledge collections.
The program featured a panel of American Indian historians and cultural experts discussing federal and regional history and culture.
