Uthira Kosa Mangai is a tiny hamlet, famous for the Siva temple considered to be 3000 years old, the oldest in the world. It is considered to be one of the very ancient Hindu temples which Tamil literature describes as Mann Mundhiyo Mangai Mundhiyo? meaning Did the mud (mann) come first or is the Mangai (The Female Deity of the Temple)?. This is the place where Siva transferred the secrets of Vedas to Parvati. Uthiram means (upadesam) kosam (secrets) Parvati (Mangai) hence this place is known as Uthira Kosa Mangai. Strangely, this temple is not a Padal petra sthalam.
The temple is believed to be built by the Panyda kings. Achutappa Nayak (1529–1542 A.D.), a Hindu ruler of Thanjavur, Muthuveerappar and other kings of Ramanthapuram Sethupathy dynasty have contributed to the temple. The last renovation was carried out by the queen of Ramanthapuram. The temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
he temple is located 32 km East from Paramakkudi and 10 km west from Ramanathapuram. The temple has a seven-tiered rajagopuram (gateway tower). The temple has numerous shrines, with those of Mangalanathar, Mangalambigai and Natarajar being the most prominent. There are separate shrines for Mangalanathar (Shiva) in the form of lingam and Mangalambigai. There is a 6 ft (1.8 m) tall ancient maragatha Nataraja idol carved out of emerald inside the temple.[6] A hall of Saharasralingam has thousand lingams enshrined in it. At the entrance of the main precinct, the temple features exquisite stone carvings of Yali (mythological dragon), depicted with a rolling stone ball inside its mouth. The granite images of the deities Ganesha (son of Shiva and god of wisdom), Murugan (son of Shiva), Nandi (Representative of all our Souls) and Navagraha (nine planetary deities) are located in the hall leading to the sanctum. As in other Shiva temples of Tamil Nadu, the first precinct or the walls around the sanctum of Erumbeeswarar has images of Thenmugaparaman (Dakshinamurthy-Shiva as the Teacher), Durga (warrior-goddess) and Chandikeswarar (a saint and devotee of Shiva).

Kothandaramaswamy Temple , DHANUSHKODI, RAMESWARAM
KOTHANDARAMAR TEMPLE
The Kothandaramaswamy Temple at Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu is a shrine dedicated to the Hindu deity Rama. Located at a distance of 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) from Rameswaram, it forms the southernmost tip of the island.[1] The temple is the only historical structure to survive the 1964 cyclone that washed away Dhanushkodi. The temple has the deities of Rama, Lakshmana, Sita, Hanuman and Vibhishana. The temple is surrounded by sea and remains a tourist attraction. It is easily accessible from Rameswaram.
The temple is estimated to have been constructed about 500-1000 years ago.[2] Rama, the main idol, is depicted as having a bow (Kothandam), and hence the name Kothandaramaswamy for the idol.[2]
The temple is believed to be the place where Vibhishana, the younger brother of Ravana, asked Rama and his vanara (ape men) army for refuge.[2] According to this tradition, after the abduction of Sita, Vibhishana advised Ravana to return her to Rama.[2] However, Ravana did not listen to the advice, which led to Vibhishana fleeing from Lanka and joining Rama's army. When Vibhishana surrendered to Rama, the vanara army urged Rama not to accept Vibhishana believing him to be a spy. However, Rama accepted Vibhishana under the insistence of Hanuman stating that it is his duty to protect the ones surrendered to him.[2] It is also said that after the slaying of Ravana, Rama performed the Pattabhishekam (ascension to king of Lanka) for Vibhishana at this place.[2][3] The story is depicted in painting across the walls inside the shrine.[4]
This holy place where Lord Rama conducted pattabhishekam of Vibheeshnar, brother of king Ravana after the battle against Ravana.
Gothandaramar Temple * Rameshwaram ~
Gothandaramar temple * - Place to visit around Rameshwaram ~
This had been the place where Vibhishana's coronation had been conducted under the presence of lord Rama, by His brother Lakshmana, after having defeated and killed the demon Ravana at the battle in Lanka.
It is well situated near Rameshwaram within the reach of 12 k.m from there. After having made the dharshan in the Rameshwaram temple, we have to go there in order finish the circuit of worshiping. There will be no frequent bus services from Rameshwaram, one should hire taxis or otherwise auto-rickshaws to reach there.
When we reached there, a huge sign board having all the details of that place and it's importance, welcomed us. Near the temple premises a lovely seashore view has been there to feast your eyes. In order to reach the shrine, you have to climb a little bit through the stair cases.
Having reached the shrine, you could worship the lord Rama there with the thoughts of your desires to be fulfilled in front of the lord. You should note one point that lord Rama had conducted the coronation of Vibhishnan as the king of Lanka, even though he didn't have the intention of being the king of Lanka. Because of the surrender he had made to lord Rama which had been not only as political but also an absolute shelter to the feet of lord Rama.
For that only Vibhishnan had been awarded with the crown of Lanka. Like this, when we surrender ourselves (our desire) at the feet of lord Rama, He should definitely fulfill our wishes to be a reality. Again, we can see the portraits of the related story hanged on the walls all around the shrine's inner portion.

Rameswaram Floating Stone
This is really mind blowing for some real religionist.
It is mentioned in the epic Ramayana that Ram Setu was built by the son of Lord Vishwakarma when Lord Rama needed to cross the sea to reach Lanka. The bridge known as Adam's Bridge is said to be built of floating stones. The epic mentions that whenever the name of Lord Rama was written over any stone, it started to float in the sea water.
Some such stones are said to be scattered at Rameswaram during the Tsunami
Rameshwaram* Land of Lord Rama ~
Rameshwaram is an island situated at southern Tamil Nadu in India. It's well connected with allmajor cities of Tamil Nadu by bus and train only. The nearest air port is Madurai, from which we could easily reach Rameshwaram within 4
hours. There are a lot of classic and budgeted hotels in Rameshwaram and it's nearest town of Ramanathapuram.
Normally, there is an old adage that if unless or otherwise a Hindu could start a pilgrimage from Kasi and could end it with Rameshwaram, there would be no sense of a fulfillment. So nowadays also it's been a custom to follow this traditional rule by every Hindu family.
Like Sankaran Kovil, It's the place of fusion between the two main divisions in Hinduism as called 'Saivam' & 'Vaishnavam'. Here lord Rama, one of the 10 incarnations of lord Vishnu worshiped lord Shiva in 'Linga' form, whereas in Sankaran Kovil lord Shiva stands as 'Sankara Narayanan' in order to fulfill the desire of goddess Parvathi.
Rameshwaram has been in the form (shape) of a conch, which is one of the holy instruments at one of the hands of lord Vishnu and here in Rameshwaram, one of His incarnation as lord Rama had worshiped lord Shiva as in the 'Linga' form,
which had been consecrated by His consort Sita.
Lord Rama, one of the incarnations (7th) of lord Vishnu, once upon came here in order to expiate from the sin of killing the demon king Ravana of Lanka, who had been an ardent devotee of lord Shiva and also the grandson of lord Brahmah. Even he had been a demon,he was also a brahmanan by his predecessors.'This sin of killing' had been called as 'Brahmahathi' thosam. For this one could do 'Shiva Linga' pooja,in order to expiate from the 'Brahmahathi' thosam.
A Very speciallity in this temple is it's third corridor, which has been well known world wide and also the biggest in the world for it's Gigantic size and for it's length, 3850 ft. There are thousand two hundred pillar stones of having 30 feet in height, have been lined up on the platform, which is in 5 ft height,in both sides. The temple has been in the dimension of 865 ft in length and 657 ft in width. This temple has been a well model for the 'Thravidan' (south India) architecture. There have been 22 'Theerthams' both inside, as well outside of this temple.Again, there have been 19 various shrines inside the temple.
There have been 22 theerthams (holy water) inside the temple premises, as follows :- 1. MahaLakshmi theertham. 2. Savithri theertham. 3. Gayathri theertham. 4. Saraswathi theertham 5. Sethumathava theertham. 6. Nala theertham 7. Neela theertham. 8. Kavaya theertham. 9. Kavatcha theertham. 10. Kanthamathana theertham. 11. Sanghu theertham. 12. Sakkara theer-
tham 13. Brahmahathi-Vimotchana theertham 14. Surya theertham. 15. Chandra theertham. 16. Ganga theertham. 17. Yamuna theertham.18. Gaya theertham. 19. Siva theertham. 20.Sathyamirtha theertham. 21. Sarva theertham. 22. Kodi theertham.
One who decides to launch the pilgrimage of 'Kasi' to 'Rameshwaram',first of all, should come here and should take bath in all the theerthas in and outside the temple premises. While having done so,they should take sand from the shore of
'Agni' theertha and should bring it to the shrine of 'Sethu Mathavar' by having divided that sand as three parts with the help of one 'anthanar' or otherwise called as 'Brahmanan'.After that they should left one part at that shrine and the 2nd part to that 'anthanar' as the 'Thaanam' (sand+your affordable money). With that third part of the sand, they should leave for 'Kasi' in order to do the following rituals there in the 'Ganga'.
After having reached Kasi with that remaining third part of the sand, they should leave it to 'Prayagai' where the three rivers called Ganges,Yamuna and Saraswathi had mingled together. out of the 3 rivers,Saraswathi has been the invisible river and also known as 'Antharyami' in Sanskrit. After having taken bath there, they should worship lord Kasinathar and could do the rituals for the ancestors (pithrukkal). From there, they should bring the Ganga-water with them and again should come to Rameshwaram and could do 'abisegham' (pouring) on lord Ramanatha Swamy. Finally they should bring the 'Kodi' theetha to their houses and could do pooja with that water. Then they should give it to their relatives.
