Lal Tibba in Mussoorie can be reached by road via the route of Picture Palace, followed by Char Dukan and then you finally get to the awesome peak of Lal Tibba Mussoorie. It is 5.7 KM from Mussoorie, and just 38 KM from Dehradun.
Lal Tibba is the highest peak's topmost point and most famous place in Mussoorie. Popular among tourists and travellers for viewing long trails of major mountain peaks as well as romantic sunset and sunrise, Lal Tibba is located at Depot Hill in Landour.
Lal Tibba is the highest point in Mussoorie and offers a panoramic view of the town and its surroundings. The place is famous for a Japanese telescope which was placed here in 1967. One can view Badrinath, Kedarnath, Banderpunch and other Himalyan ranges from this telescope. Lal Tibba is also called Depot Hill due to the presence of a military depot here in earlier times
Mussoorie (Garhwali/Hindi: Masūrī) is a hill station and a municipal board in the Dehradun District of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand.
It is about 35 kilometres (22 mi) from the state capital of Dehradun and 290 km (180 mi) north of the national capital of New Delhi. The hill station is in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan range. The adjoining town of Landour, which includes a military cantonment, is considered part of 'greater Mussoorie', as are the townships of Barlowganj and Jharipani.
Mussoorie is at an average altitude of 1,880 metres (6,170 ft). To the northeast are the Himalayan snow ranges, and to the south, the Doon Valley and Shiwalik ranges. The second highest point is the original Lal Tibba in Landour, with a height of over 2,275 metres (7,464 ft). Mussoorie is popularly known as The Queen of the Hills.
Mussoorie was founded by Lt. Frederick Young of East India Company. Lt. Young came to these hills for the purpose of shooting game.
He was so enamoured by the beauty that he decided to build a hunting lodge (shooting box) on the Camel's Back Road with FJ Shore, Jt. Magistrate of Doon in 1823. He raised the first Gurkha Regiment and planted the first potatoes in the valley. His tenure in Mussoorie ended in 1844 and he further served in Dimapore and Darjeeling and retired as a General and went back to Ireland.[citation needed] There are no memorials to commemorate Young in Mussoorie. However, there is a Young Road in Dehradoon on which ONGC's Tel Bhawan stands.
In 1832 Mussoorie was the intended terminus of the Great Trigonometric Survey of India that began at the southern tip of India. Although unsuccessful, the Surveyor General of India at the time, George Everest wanted to have the new office of the Survey of India based in Mussoorie. A compromise was to have it in Dehradun, where it still is.[citation needed]

The name Mussoorie is often attributed to a derivation of 'mansoor', a shrub which is indigenous to the area. The town is often referred to as 'Mansoori' by most Indians.

Lal Tibba, Mussoorie Overview
Untouched by commercialisation, Lal Tibba is located on the top of Depot Hill in Landour, approximately 6 kilometres from Mussoorie. Being the highest point in the area, Lal Tibba is one of the most stunning viewpoints you would have experienced in your life. The name literally translates to 'red hill'. Rising to a height of 2,275 meters (7,164 feet), Lal Tibba is the picture-perfect place to fulfil your sightseeing desires. The telescopes installed here are priceless, and aid in cherishing the beautiful unfettering panoramas of the Nilkantha peak (6,596 meters) in Badrinath, Kedarnath peak (6,940 meters), Banderpoonch range of three peaks with the highest rising to 6,316 meters can all be viewed on a cloudless day.
The region has long been occupied, serving as a summer getaway during the British-Raj and a recovering station for the military, hence gaining popularity as a cantonment hill station. It is now occupied by the Indian Military Services. In the form of a small terrace, it gives you great memories with mesmerizing views of Tibet border. The place is relaxing and has remains of British Architecture. The unobstructed view it offers is soothing to eyes. It brings together the blue sky and lush green terrains in front of our eyes.
There are only a handful of places that offer such exhilarating views and being in Mussoorie, it is somewhat necessary to tick this off your must-visit list. There are few things better than being surrounded by a thick verdant forest cover, a tiny little picturesque hill station within eyeshot and the horizon studded with snow-clad mountains!

My Visit to Lal Tibba, mussoorie on 15th OCT / 2018
Sunrise at Lal Tibba, Mussoorie
Lal Tibba, the highest point in Mussoorie is situated in Landour area, which is the oldest populated place in the destination. The site was also referred to as a Depot Hill, due to the presence of depot in the region.
The hill houses a camp of The Indian Military services and Broadcasting stations or towers of All India Radio and Doordarshan. The beautiful views of sunrise and sunset from this vantage point can also be seen by travellers visiting Lal Tibba.
In 1967, a Japanese telescope was placed at the tower on a cliff by municipality to offer beautiful views of adjoining places to the travellers. Tourists can have beautiful views of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Banderpunch and other Himalyan ranges from this telescope.
Apart from this, tourists can have a glimpse of some old buildings and houses, which are constructed in British architectural style.
