2 days in Miri Sarawak : Trekking at Lambir Hills

I was at Lambir Hills National Park on the start of Feb 2013, that's just when my long Chinese New Year Holiday started. It's a place that I always want to visit, so I asked my younger brother Jye to come along. He likes jungle trekking like me, so both of us make the perfect team.

This is the Lambir Hills National Park, I visited the place 2 years ago, and last trip I did not went to any of the waterfall, but just to the summit. And this trip is a bit relax, as I take my time to explore around, and chilling at the famous Latak Waterfall.

This famous Mount Lambir National Park is located along Miri-Bintulu Road, 36 km southwest of Miri town in Sarawak, East Malaysia. It was gazetted as a National Park in 1975, and covers an area of 6,952 hectares.
There are about 1,173 species of trees, with 286 genus and 81 tree families making Lambir one of the forests of various plants in Malaysia. Wildlife can also be found in the interior of parks, especially monkeys, bears, squirrels and bats.
The best time to visit this park is in the morning, so you have plenty of time to walk along the trail in the park. The main attraction of the park is the beautiful waterfall, and the Latak Waterfall located just 0.18 km away. It is a 20-minute walk from the Park office. It will take longer, if you stop to see the flora and fauna along the way.
Before entering the park, you will need to register at the Park office where the guide will explain some security rules before entering the park. If you want to go to a waterfall farther away, it's best to leave early in the morning as the journey will take several hours. Guides will also take visitors to the exit at 5pm as the park gates will be closed at this time.
Other waterfalls in the park are located along the Pantu trail such as Pantu and Nibong waterfalls. The journey there will take two hours. In addition, there are Fountain, Tengkorong and Wall waterfalls along the Bakam trail. The other main trails are Run and Lepoh-Ridan. There are more trails inside the park, and you can find more information from the Park office.
There is a 22-meter-high Tree Tower on the Pantu Trail, about a kilometer from the Park office. Visitors can climb up and take in the spectacular view of Dipterocarp forest. It is also a great place to study birds.
