Magical scenes: Lamu Museum
Lamu Museum is housed in a Swahili warehouse on the waterfront of the Indian Ocean making it a good gateway for those interested in the Swahili culture. The key attractions at the museum that was constructed in the year 1813 include the Fort, German Post Office, Swahili House and the Takwa Ruins as highlighted in Tonight’s episode of Magical Scenes.

Lamu Island in Kenya, is one of the best places to learn about and experience authentic Swahili culture and food.so in this video we’re going on an ultimate lamu old town tour ,we saw massive old century buildings from 14th century ,lamu fort ,lamu museum,
Location
The Lamu Archipelago is located in the Indian Ocean close to the northern coast of Kenya, to which it belongs. The islands lie between the towns of Lamu and Kiunga, near the Coast Province. It is a part of Lamu District.
The largest of the islands are Pate Island, Manda Island and Lamu Island. Smaller islands include Kiwayu, which lies in the Kiunga Marine National Reserve, and Manda Toto. Today the largest town in the archipelago is Lamu Town, on Lamu Island. The town is on the World Heritage List.
Lamu Old Town is the oldest and best-preserved Swahili settlement in East Africa, retaining its traditional functions. Built in coral stone and mangrove timber, the town is characterized by the simplicity of structural forms enriched by such features as inner courtyards, verandas, and elaborately carved wooden doors. Lamu has hosted major Muslim religious festivals since the 19th century, and has become a significant centre for the study of Islamic and Swahili cultures.
Lamu has continuously been inhabited for over 700 years.
The growth and decline of the seaports on the East African coast and interaction between the Bantu, Arabs, Persians, Indians, and Europeans represents a significant cultural and economic phase in the history of the region which finds its most outstanding expression in Lamu Old Town, its architecture and town planning.
The town is characterized by narrow streets and magnificent stone buildings with impressive curved doors, influenced by unique fusion of Swahili, Arabic, Persian, Indian and European building styles. The buildings on the seafront with their arcades and open verandas provide a unified visual impression of the town when approaching it from the sea. While the vernacular buildings are internally decorated with painted ceilings, large niches (madaka), small niches (zidaka), and pieces of Chinese porcelain. The buildings are well preserved and carry a long history that represents the development of Swahili building technology, based on coral, lime and mangrove poles.
Lamu Old Town is managed by the National Museums and Heritage Act 2006 (that replaced the 1983 National Museums Act CAP 216 and Antiquities and Monuments Act CAP 215) and the Local Governments Act (

Africa is the continent with the highest percentage of children with AIDS, orphans, forced to work nine hours a day for seven days a week in prostitution or suffering from various types of slavery.
Various NGOs and private institutions make everything they can to help these children. We will approach them to see some of their efforts they use to help them.

My friends and I had the pleasure of visiting Lamu in November, 2016. We stayed in an eco Airbnb on Manda island and took the time to enjoy the beach, the pole-pole lifestyle Lamuans are known for as well as get cultured at the Lamu Museum and the German Post Office.
I highly recommend a trip to Lamu to anyone who visits Kenya.

Community who abandoned area in Lamu 300 years ago
More than 300 years ago, residents of Takwa town, in Lamu county, abandoned the area, leaving behind traces of a rich Swahili cultural heritage. Now, local and international tourists can get a glimpse of what life was like in the old days, after the Takwa ruins were gazetted and preserved by the Kenya National Museums. Peter Mwangangi reports.

Your Holiday travel plan :D. I went to Lamu with my workmate Thandi for work- what better way to end a crazy work week than to take a vacation and sleep till 930am?! (lol). I enjoyed every moment of being in Lamu. We stayed at Furaha house and got a great deal of USD31 per night. The most amazing this was the house manager who also doubled up as our chef. WE had 1kg (yes a whole KG) of prawns for only Ksh1200. This would not even be enough for a good meal at the hotel downstairs.
We were also brave enough to go haggle at the Lamu market a little bit, visit the Lamu museum, the Lamu fort library, go for a sunset sail, and get back to Nairobi before monday! That was a lot but definitely deserved.
Where are you travelling to this December?

Lamu sculptures that took seven years to make
This year’s Lamu Arts Festival had a myriad of artistic attractions. Running from February 21 to 24, the four-day festival, was technically the third, but Lamu has been holding international arts fêtes since 2011 when the first Lamu Painters Festival was held and painters came from as far as Europe.
But it was the eight Maweni carriers that held centre stage at this year’s arts festival. Developed out of an idea Herbert had after working with the carriers whose coral stones he has been using to build no less than six elegant Swahili-style homes, all equipped with modern amenities but retaining the feel of old Lamu.
Let's preserve Lamu old town
Coast region deputy director for the National Museums of Kenya Hussein Athman calls for the preservation of the Lamu old town,a UNESCO World heritage site listed in 2001, he says the town risks being removed in the list due to infiltration of western cultures.
