Mountain Biking Lanai Hawaii Style
Lanai, Hawaii - Munro Trail & Kaunolu (4 August 2010)
Lanai is amazing, it is owned by a single person (David Murdock), population around 3,000 and not a single traffic light on the island. The trails are mainly 4WD dirt roads, not technical but flowy in the down slope with some loose sand and rough lava rocks.
Started at 9.30am from the resort at Koele to Munro Trail, mainly uphill with some stunning views and rewarded at the end with a fast and smooth down hill section to Manele Bay. Had lunch for an hour and headed to Kaunolu, all downhill and fast. But the climb back up was tough.
Ended back at Koele at 4.30pm, total ride distance around 40 km.

Mountain Biking the Munro Trail in Lanai Hawaii
30 mile loop through the Hawaiian island of Lanai via the Munro trail. My ride started at the Four Seasons Hotel in Manale Bay and climbed the paved road to the flat Lanaihale Trail. After a few mostly flat miles you begin the climb up to the Munro trail and then descend into Lanai City.

Mililani Mauka, short ride. Used to be Pineapple Field.
When we were kids this area and the whole of Mililani Town was just Pineapple and Sugarcane fields with one elementary school, Kipapa Elementary. Before anything was built we used to ride our Motorcycles and Peddle bikes all around where Mililani Town is now and we also used to ride our motorcycles in Kipapa Gulch and up and down its hills. Up onto around 1985, the Mauka side of the Freeway was all Pineapple Field and we used to come once in a while to jump our cars over the Hilly dirt roads. And during the construction of the H2 Freeway, we used to ride all the way to Pearl City area and above the Waipahu area. There also were places on the side of the freeway where the dirt was placed to form banks for the highway and we also made motorcycle trails on those.
Before Mililani Golf Course was built both army paratroopers and civilian skydivers used to jump almost every weekend, maybe a hundred paratroopers jumped a day. The skydivers used to jump from way above the clouds and would freefall with various colored smoke flares which they did pretty often.
Camera used for the video is the Tactic DroneView Camera 720P version. You can still find it here at tower here but you have to look under parts for the camera to actually find the camera itself.

Near to the rim of Waipio Valley on the Waimea side of the canyon lies the little known, totally self-sustainable, non-HELCO reliant community of West Waikoekoe. This is the only completely green and gated subdivision of its kind on the Big Island. Located less than 10 mi. from the center of Waimea w/2 college preparatory schools, N.Hawaii Community Hospital, all town services and approx. 40 min. to the resorts and world class beaches of the Gold Coast, W. Waikoekoe allows for luxury farming and ranching opportunities within the city limits. All lots are zoned Ag. 40 ac. so your closest neighbor may not even be in sight. The air is clean and the nights are star filled as there is no light pollution. The lights of Hana, Maui can sometimes be seen at night and the island of Maui, the blue Pacific Ocean, the colorful canyons of Waipio Valley and Mauna Kea dominate the landscape during the day. Fourteen years of landscaping and reforestation including the dedication of 7 ac. for a hardwood tree farm have gone into this property. Dedicated to native species and protected w/interior fencing. Over 1,000 trees including native Koa and Ohia, Red Gum and Rainbow Eucalyptus, Norfolk Pine, rare species of bamboo, flora and fauna collected from all over the islands, banana and fruit groves, ferns, Traveler's palms, Hawaiian gardenias and purple ginger. Estimated at approx. 60% native, the list includes the State flower mao hau hele, 'ala ala wai nui and native taro just to name a few. The home is modest but well-built and cozy. From the lanai, one can see waterfalls in Waipio Valley-22 have been counted. When the trades blow into the valley's waterfalls at sunset, the patient observer may experience a spiraling rainbow within the depths of the valley. Once part of the vast royal lands of King Lunalilo and Parker Ranch, Waikoekoe is a truly special place which offers a rare lifestyle. 40+Solar panels, 2.5KW Xantrex inverter, 24Volt system, 12 deep cycle batteries all new 2005
