I return to Chepstow near the mouth of the Wye Valley, the town where I spent the majority of my childhood. I revisit many of the places I remember and reminisce about my life when I lived there. One major part of living in Chepstow was that it was where I first discovered the enjoyment of walking in the countryside, so on my return visit today I decide to go on a walk, which was one of the very first walks I ever did as a child…..

Filmed in the Wye Valley in the counties of Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire. Locations include Chepstow, the Dell, Chepstow Castle, Lancaut and Wintour’s Leap. This is the first in a series of films in 2018 celebrating 25 years of “The Solitary Rambler”.

Ancient Ruins of Lancaut Village (Gloucestershire, England, UK)

Wikipedia: Lancaut (Welsh: Llan Cewydd) is a deserted village in Gloucestershire, England, located alongside the River Wye, around two miles north of Chepstow. Little remains of the village today, except for the roofless church of St. James. The village was never large, but in 1306 contained 10 tenant households, and in 1551 had 19 adults. By 1750 the village had only two inhabited houses, and in 1848 the parish was recorded as having a mere 16 inhabitants.

Lancaut is a deserted village in Gloucestershire, England, located alongside the River Wye, around two miles north of Chepstow.

Puzzlewood is an often used location because of it's outstanding beauty and other worldly look and feel. Nestled in the Forest of Dean. It has been used for the filming of:
