The Kaamps Estate
The Kaamps Estate is located in a small village called Deurningen in The Netherlands. This is where the Estate Cheeses are prepared using Dutch time-tested cheese makers traditions. Herbert, the farmer, strives for an estate as sustainable as possible. The well-being of his cows is very important to him. To gain the best milk, the cows need good food. For example, Herbert sows extra clovers in the meadows. Because of the clovers, less fertilizers are needed, which is better for the cows and the environment. The cows can decide themselves when they would like to graze in the green meadows and when it is time for milking. If it is too cold or too hot outside the cows can stay in the barn, with their comfortable cow mattresses and massage brushes. “If you are good for the cow, the cow is good for you”, says Herbert. This can be tasted in the milk and the cheese.
The estate cheeses are crafted since 1985 at the almost 100 year old estate. Herbert uses the milk of his own cows which is why the milk is incredibly fresh before it turns into cheese. After the cheeses are traditionally prepared, they are washed several times with a caramel or honey coating. This is how the cheeses get a beautiful colored rind and makes Herbert’s cheeses unique.
The specialty cheeses of the Kaamps Estate are washed with a caramel coating. This creates a nice deep brown color on the rind. Each cheese is prepared and ripened according to time-tested cheese makers traditions. The cheeses are available in several stages of maturation, made out of cow’s or goat’s milk and with various herbs added to the cheese.

Mooi Overijssel - Deurningen

Tour of the ruines at the Oosterveld Estate in Deurningen part 1 of 2
Welcome to the Oosterveld Estate!
Join me in this two part film about an old 1920's/1930's country estate in the East of the Netherlands that played a role in WW2.
The Oosterveld estate (Landgoed Oosterveld) is located near the former Twente Airforcebase and in World war 2 was part of the much
larger german built Fliegerhorst Twente.
The estate is a small private owned (one of the few remaining) country estates that was founded (and still owned as a far as I know)
by the Van Heek Family who owned serval textile factories in Enschede. They had quite a big imperium like many other textile manufacturer's
families in the east of the netherlands. They owned many forrest's and estates in the rural area's where they had production forrests for
producing wood as well as agricultural uses. They also built many country houses there, such as the postwar villa on this estate.
In the 1940's the germans built this big airbase, which they called a fliegerhorst. They used many of the surrounding forrest to built
camouflaged facilities. They would hide the planes in the woods, in horseshoe-shaped embankments that they called splitterboxen.
Besides that, they also had many bunkers and other structures, they where moddeled after farms and agricultural buildings to simply hide
the fact that it was an airbase. Many of those buidlings where destroyed, but traces and of them can still be found and serval derelict
structures are still intact in some places.
On this estate, some ruines and derelict structures can be found, some of them are part of the fliegerhorst, and others are part of the
original estate.
Sadly, the estate is a bit run down. There is quite a rare german built building called a BereidshaftsGebäude which is the only one left
of it's kind (from what I have heard about it), and it's on the brink of collapse. The owners just let buildings fall apart, and the two bridges
on the estate are beyond their design service life.
Also, some things on the estate are vandalized by metal thiefs. This estate is private owned but open to the public (pedestrians only),
so if you visit it I urge you to respect the owners property.
I've split the film up into two parts, and I guide you through the estate with a map. In the description you can find links to jump to a
specific location.

**** Update 01-05 -2016 *****
As of may first, it seems like the estate is off-limits to the public now. I've seen that they've placed signs stating it is not allowed to enter the premises anymore. That is very uncool but understandable since there was a lot vandalization going on and last time I've checked the bunker I found a matrass in there! It is a private estate and you where allowed to wander around but not anymore because people didn't respect the owners property.
Sadly we can no longer check it out and monitor the deterioration of the buildings, as evertying was very much run down and neglected.
