Anzac legend honoured in Landsborough Museum Exhibition
To kick off Heritage Month, Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski officially launched the Far From This Land exhibition which commemorates the First World War 100th anniversary at Landsborough Museum on Friday, April 17.
Councillor Baberowski said Far From This Land was the main part of a brand new exhibition and entry display at the Landsborough Museum, which also received Queensland Anzac Centenary grants program funding.
“Far From This Land commemorates the First World War experience on the Sunshine Coast through letters, documents, photographs, artefacts and family histories,” he said.
“It is also an opportunity to view three rare and significant Dead Man’s Pennies which were issued to the next of kin of servicemen who had fallen in the First World War between 1914 and 1918. The Dead Man’s Pennies are rare and it is significant that the museum has three. They will provide an emotive and tangible connection to the life and stories of servicemen William Murphy, James Maddock, Percy Edwards and their families.
“As the Coast’s lead public exhibition initiative to commemorate the centenary of the Anzac landing in Gallipoli in WW1 the project aims to help students, residents and visitors understand the experiences of local servicemen and women and their families during and after the war.”
The exhibition is open to the public from Sunday April 19 to April 2016. The Landsborough Museum is open from 9am to 3pm Wednesday to Friday and Sunday. Admission fees apply. For more information phone 07 5494 1755

A GWR Prototypical 00 Gauge Layout set in 1930
Visited this layout this morning just 10 minutes in the car away. Gobsmacked to say the least and felt like putting a match to mine and starting again. This gentlemans layout is based on prototypical GWR practice and rolling stock as it was in 1930 and if it didn't exist in 1930 then you won't see it ! A superb modeller he has fashioned many ex 1923 pregrouping loco's from kits and some scratchbuilt. So hope you enjoy something we should all aspire too and marvel at the detail in this layout as I did. He is not a BRMA member as the previous layout I recently put up on my channel was. You really have to search for British layouts in Australia these days so I am amazed to find five in my area alone !
Hope you enjoy the clip.
Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame_Hertiage Tagalong 4WD tours_Longreach
The Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame's new Heritage Tagalong Tours are ideal for visitors keen to explore more of Longreach and its iconic surrounds.
Your own or a hire 4WD is necessary for this guided driving adventure around the bush and private properties surrounding Longreach. Highlights include smoko at the famous Starlight's Lookout (said to be once used by notorious cattle duffer Harry Redford), a visit to Vera Park station where you'll see old settler's huts, and sites of old hotels and spelling yards for Cobb & Co coaches. Enjoy lunch and boil the billy at the Yarraman Waterhole before a leisurely drive back to the Hall of Fame's Cattlemen's Bar & Grill for a cold drink.
The tour is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to experience a little 'off-road adventure' in a safe, gentle way and to see special places that tourists would not normally get to see on their travels through Western Queensland. stockmanshalloffame.com.au
