Lanercost Priory was founded about 1166 by Henry II. When completed in 1220, canons from the priory in Norfolk, remained for some 370 years until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536, by Henry Vlll. The Priory is situated in the village of Lanercost North East Cumbria England. Filmed with the Mavic 2 Zoom at a height of 150 ft +.

England 2019 Episode 20: Lanercost Priory
Lanercost Priory’s peaceful, russet-colored ruins are a good example of early English architecture. Founded in 1166 by the Augustinians, this border priory and mission was constructed using stones from the then long abandoned Hadrian’s Wall. After the dissolution of the monasteries, it fell into disrepair until the nave was restored as a parish church in 1740.
The small grotesque carved head was just outside the entry to the priory church and represented the evils of temptation, so as monks entered for services, they would turn their backs on temptation.
Atop one of the tombs is the terracotta effigy of Elizabeth Dacre Howard, who died in 1883 at the age of four months.
We enjoyed a pleasant lunch at the priory's tea room which offered a number of gluten-free options for Pam.
