Langley Park Rally School Review (by Roz Bennetts)
Roz Bennetts's review of her Rally school Day with Langley Park Rally School on Saturday, 9th February. Video produced by Langley Park Rally School. Scroll down for full review.
This video arrived in the post this morning and was produced entirely by Langley Park Rally School as part of their experience that I recently attended with them in Essex (UK) in February. Marks out of 10 for the video has to be a 10 as in my opinion they've really nailed how to produce a high quality rendition of the day that customers will want to keep and share, (as I'm doing now). It's also great publicity for them and well deserved. The video set-up they were using wasn't any more sophisiticated than the other driving schools I've encountered - where Langley Park Rally School score is they've obviously hired someone competent on the production and editing which makes all the difference.
On the day I attended it had been (and still was) raining - I don't know if this was the reason but the driving was kept to quite a sedate pace throughout and I got to do none of the power slides or handbrake turns I was hoping for. I did get the back out with the rear wheel drive car but I wouldn't really classify that as a power slide. So, as for the adrenaline pumping and excitement factor, I'm afraid that was probably a 2 out of 10, perhaps due to the weather (if I look a bit bored in the video then that's probably the reason).
To be fair to Langley Park Rally School I'm probably not their typical punter for one of these taster sessions in that I've attended a few drifting events and I'm used to throwing cars around and going sideways. Had we got in a couple of handbrake turns I think I would've had my thrills quotient for the day but the weather put the kibosh on that. I do feel however that I got my money's worth due to the overall experience: staff, amenities, this souvenir video, plus certificate and score card to take away. If I were to suggest one thing to them it would be to include at least some extreme driving when the track's muddy and wet, as it frequently will be with the British weather!
Here's a bit of blurb from their website which describes my itinerary:
Enjoy approximately 2 1/2 hours at our venue and experience an introduction to the thrills of rallying where you will have the opportunity to drive at high speed on a loose surface in two of our fully prepared rally cars; one front wheel drive and one rear wheel drive. You will share your rally experience with other drivers on the day.
The instructor will introduce you to the key features and controls of the car and will talk you through what skills you will be taught out on the track. The bulk of the tuition is carried out in the car so you can get the most amount of time in the car. An intercom system is built in to the car to enable you to talk to the instructor as you drive.
Then, the moment you've been waiting for, driving the car on the track. The first lap will be used for you to familiarise yourself with the track. You will then have another 2 laps in this car of the 1 1/2 mile stage negotiating your way through cones and tyres at high speed. You will experience power slides and handbrake turns. After you have finished, the instructor will fill out a score sheet, rating your performance in the rally car. You will then have a break before your session of 3 laps in the second car.
Once all the driving sessions are complete, you will be strapped in to the passenger seat while the instructor gets their own back! You will experience a white knuckle ride on a hot lap with the instructor driving.

I paid £30 for a DVD of in car footage of my day driving.
When the DVD arrived nearly 3 months later (after several chasing calls) all it contained was just 2 mins and 34 seconds of the demo run with the instructor. All of the other promised footage was missing.
I think Matt Allwright should pay these scamming buggers a visit!
