Juxtavoices in the Bear Pit
Great new footage from Art in the Gardens event, Botanical Gardens, Sheffield.
This amazing new project is Martin's 25+ voice antichoir which includes many familiar faces from Sheffield's leftfield music, poetry and visual arts scene. Although the group performs structured scores, no fixed pitches are ever notated, and the group uses improvisation to shape the detail of the scores as the music progresses. Both trained and untrained voices are welcome. As well as playing normal concerts, the group is to be found in various unexpected public places and at poetry / text events. A Discus CD is planned for 2012.

Juxtavoices membership is open to any singer irrespective of training. The repertoire mixes simple scores and instructions with improvised elements, which often allow the voices to determine the shape of the music as it progresses. No previous experience of either group singing or improvising is required! Rehearsals begin with workshop style exercises which are designed to encourage the group's confidence in using non standard techniques, including improvisation.

He's an adjunct faculty member of Wizard Academy, a 21st century business school, in Austin, TX, teaching the Young Writer's Workshop and No One Told Me How to Write Workshop.
