Vuollerim, the Village of 1000 Ice Lanterns 2017
Here we share some memories from the festival this year.
A festival full of wonderful guests from all over the world, good artisan food, genuine experiences and the northern lights.
It was a pleasure to meet you all from Taiwan, South Africa, Germany, Austria, Holland, France, China, Norway and Sweden. Welcome back!
The tradition within the Vuollerim Area, originally started by a couple of local women who wanted to decorate the village for the yearly winter market in Jokkmokk. This has now become tradition for many households in Vuollerim and are called ”the 1000 ice lantern village”.
You are welcome to join the villagers and take part of the preparations, enjoy the ice lanterns, the genuine life-style, the local food and the warm hospitality.

Equal teamwork changes the world
This video was a part of the presentation at SOCAPeurope in Amsterdam 2011 in the panel How you turn your city to a place for innovation and at Socap Future in Malmö 2012. It is about the great teamwork gong on among grassroots in Swedish Lapland.
Everyone has important pieces to the puzzle for the survival and development of the region where they live. When people choose teamwork on equal terms and contribute through social capital, things really start to happen. In Vuollerim, a small village by the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland, there are several examples of what is possible when people take action together.
