Echoes From Fort Laramie - Wyoming's Role In The American Frontier
( Take a journey back into the 1800's when Indians, soldiers, fur traders, immigrants, and others made their mark upon the American frontier. These video samples come from the historical TV documentary Echoes From Fort Laramie, which tells the story of the Wyoming-based fort, and the pivotal role it played as the central hub of Western expansion. The Fort Laramie National Historic Site and 150th Anniversary of the 1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie
Originally established as a private fur trading fort in 1834, Fort Laramie evolved into the largest and best known military post on the Northern Plains before its abandonment in 1890. This “grand old post” witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America’s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories. Also, the 1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie will be remembered in the summer of 2018 at Fort Laramie.

ABOUT
Museum of the Rockies at Montana State University is a Smithsonian Affiliate, recognized as one of the world's finest research and history museums. It is renowned for displaying an extensive collection of dinosaur fossils, including a T. rex skeleton! MOR delights visitors with changing exhibits from around the world, permanent indoor and outdoor regional history exhibits, planetarium shows, educational programs, insightful lectures, benefit events, and a museum store.
Museum of the Rockies is both a college-level division of Montana State University and an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution. Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, MOR is one of just 775 museums to hold this distinction from the more than 17,500 museums nationwide. The Museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate and a repository for federal fossils.
HISTORY
Dr. Caroline McGill, a doctor from Butte, Montana, founded Museum of the Rockies in 1957. McGill worked in partnership with MSU’s President, Dr. Roland R. Renne, and with Dr. Merrill Burlingame, head of the history department, to establish the Museum. She also served as the Museum's first curator. Her gifts included an extraordinary collection of Montana historical objects that were first housed in three Quonset huts on the MSU campus. The Museum was originally named the McGill Museum.
A volunteer corps of around 30 townspeople helped organize the collection in these Quonset huts for the first few years. The Museum was officially incorporated in 1965 as the Museum of the Rockies. By 1970, MOR hired its first full-time director, Less Drew. He brought professionalism to MOR and oversaw the design and construction of the first two Museum buildings.
Mick Hager became the director in 1982 and had the vision to expand MOR. He hired Jack Horner as the curator of paleontology. In his nearly 34-year career at MOR, Mr. Horner established a world-class paleontology research facility and expanded the focus of the Museum to include one of the most important dinosaur fossil collections in the world.
Sheldon McKamey became the Executive Director in 2003. Presently, MOR continues to focus on Paleontology, Native American History, and Montana History, while also having expanded to include Changing Exhibits from around the world, the Living History Farm, the Taylor Planetarium, the Martin Children's Discovery Center and educational programs for all ages.

703 Ivinson Avenue
Victorian turned Tudor Revival, built in 1883, redesigned by Wilbur Author Hitchcock in the early 1900s. This modest house was essentially Wyoming's first government leader's mansion. The home's first owner, John Meldrum, was the secretary of Wyoming Territory when it became a state in 1890. He later became superintendent of Yellowstone National Park. This house is part of the University Neighborhood of Laramie on the National Register of Historic Places.

Fort Caspar, Wyoming, United states
Fort Caspar, Wyoming, United States 2005, museum and historic site by City of Casper
Fort Caspar was a military post of the United States Army in present-day Wyoming, named after 2nd Lieutenant Caspar Collins, a U.S. Army officer who was killed in the 1865 Battle of the Platte Bridge Station against the Lakota and Cheyenne. Originally founded in 1859 along the banks of the North Platte River as a trading post and toll bridge on the Oregon Trail, the post was later taken over by the Army and named Platte Bridge Station to protect emigrants and the telegraph line against raids from Lakota and Cheyenne in the ongoing wars between those nations and the United States. The site of the fort, near the intersection of 13th Street and Wyoming Boulevard in Casper, Wyoming, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is now owned and operated by the City of Casper as the Fort Caspar Museum and Historic Site.
