Our BEAUTIFUL visit to Larnach Castle, known as the ONLY castle in New Zealand, was built in the 1870's, and is located in the town of Dunedin. This visit is Episode #4 of our 11-day cruise around New Zealand in April, 2017, with Princess Cruises.

[FILMED ON February 12, 2018] Situated on the Otago Peninsula, Larnach Castle is New Zealand’s only Castle. It was built in 1871 by merchant baron and politician, William Larnach for his beloved first wife. It took more than 200 workmen three years to complete the main structure and a further 12 years embellishing the interior which features the finest materials from around the world. The castle is now privately owned and cared by the Barker family who purchased it as their home in 1967.

It is entrenched in history and has a scandalous past that is an experience in itself. Larnach Castle is today the private residence of the Barker family, its grandeur and beauty are testament to the vision and tenacity of Margaret Barker who has spent 37 years bringing the castle back to its former glory.

New Zealand has many hidden gems and beautiful places to go
and see for a holiday. Especially Dunedin. Which is located at the bottom end of the easterly side of the South Island of New Zealand. There are so many beautiful things to go and see there. One is the famous Larnach Castle, that stands alone atop of the Otago Peninsula. It was built by an Australian for a Scottish family (William Larnach) Back in the Victorian Days 1870. And wasn't built for defence. Just a Family home, that looks like a castle. This place has many beautiful gardens, to relax in. And makes a excellent place for a Wedding Venue.
And wasn't expensive to go and visit. Makes a great day out with the family.
If you have a change. Please visit this magical place. It's definitely worth the visit.
