Port Renfrew Cut Off From The Island
PORT RENFREW - As Ron Gibbons hoses off the Port Renfrew ambulance Thursday, he knows full well he won't be driving it anywhere anytime soon. 911 service is out, and if someone is in trouble they'll need to come to Ron rather than the other way around.
Port Renfrew Fire Chief Dan Tennant feels like his hands are tied as well. The fire department owns 6 portable radios and he's handing out all but one of them to strategic areas around the small community. That way, if someone needs help, there will be a radio to contact first responders in a home in their neighbourhood.
The Fire Chief says he's worried because the situation in Port Renfrew Wednesday and Thursday is just one medical emergency away from turning tragic, just like he says it almost did when the phones went out a couple of years ago. He says a husband attempting to drive to the ambulance station slid off the road, and needed to be extricated from his vehicle with the jaws of life.
Phone service to Port Renfrew was knocked out Wednesday morning. High winds caused heavy damage to a Telus radio dish between Port Renfrew and Duncan. Telus has managed to fly a helicopter into the area and hopes to repair the problem Friday morning. A spokesperson says there is not a lot the company can do to protect its equipment from damage by trees or other objects whipped up by the wind.

Kingston Stories: Jake Abrams & Stefanie Nieuwenhuyse & Hampton Court Palace on Kingston University
As part of our Kingston Stories series Julius Weinberg, the Vice-Chancellor of Kingston University, introduces three videos based on the work that goes on at Kingston University.
Firstly we meet Illustrator and Kingston University Lecturer Jake Abrams. He speaks about the work he does and why it is so important that he has one foot in the teaching world.
Next we visit Stefanie Nieuwenhuyse whose work on her wooden bodice earned her high acclaim throughout the fashion world. Stefanie is part of the MA fashion postgraduate course and agreed to come to Kingston University after being hand picked by the course director.
Finally we examine the research taking place at Hampton Court Palace and the relationship that has been forged between the university and the Tudor home of Henry VIII.
For further information on any of the courses featured in this video visit the Kingston University website:

But that’s only half the story. Scientists and historians continue to work to answer unresolved questions about the universe and our own past. And recently, it seems like they’ve had some notable successes.

Schindler Holeless Hydraulic elevator at Pacific Centre mall, Downtown Vancouver *HD*
Type: Holeless hydraulic
Capacity: 2500 lbs
Features:
Directional chime: no
Directional indicator: yes
Floor chime: no
Floor indicator: yes
Stop/Run switch: no
Emergency phone: yes
For a Schindler, this elevator is weird. First off the door close button works which is almost unheard of for Schindler. As well the indicator doesn't change until the elevator reaches the next floor unlike most Schindlers which change before they even start moving.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
