The Wayfarer Experiment at Spring Pickin' (5-3-13) : Bare My Teeth
Bjorn Jacobsen - vocals/mandolin/banjo/harmonica; Matt Dazey King - percussion; Alyssa Martin - violin; Nate Arndt - guitar/vocals/bass; with Kyle Hiltz on the bass
Started four years ago now, the Wayfarer Experiment is still coming around to its final form. After a demo, the album Sad Eyes and Blue Jeans and a radio interview on the River's Open Mike show, the group keeps looking ahead to new accomplishments. With a new album, Death of the Wayfarer and many more tunes to come, The Wayfarer Experiment hopes to satisfy as many ears as possible.
Sounds of all cultures with roots from the blues. Poetic lyrics and emotional vocals on top of an everchanging list of great musicians. This is for any lover of music.
October 2009, Lancaster
musician Bjorn Jacobsen decided
to try a musical experiment.
After playing with
many bands and projects, I decided
that 'experiment' was a
better term for anything I did in
the future, he explained. An
experiment can go wrong, or, it
could do the opposite, and we
can make it into a science.
And it seems the Wayfarer Experiment
has became a science.
The original and unique sounds
of Jacobsen and band mate T.J.
Dicecco can be heard all over
Lancaster County, including at
The Symposium, Manheim's
Farmer's Hope Inn, and the Pub
Dunegal in Mount Joy.
In the beginning, I started writing
some songs that were put
together out of influences of
festivals, the Renaissance Faire,
bluegrass, folk, and Halloween,
explained Jacobsen, who
sings as well as plays the guitar,
banjo, mandolin and harmonica.
Overall, it created a new style I
like to call 'dark folk.'
In February 2010, Jacobsen
met with representatives from
Third Time Lucky Rekords and
recorded a demo of dark folk
musical songs. Then, Dicecco
joined him as a lead/rhythm
guitar player and the two began
a new musical collaboration.
We started playing the music
at some local bars and coffeehouses,
and the overall reaction
was very good, said
Jacobsen, adding that the two
will soon be recording a fulllength
album comprised of
new versions of songs from the
demo as well as others developed
from playing live.
We put this together to bring
you music from the heart of
the soul and no where else,
said Jacobsen.
