Montana Treasures // Helena with Lanie White
Diving headfirst into an entirely new sport—especially one like mountain biking—is intimidating. But, it can also be incredibly rewarding. Helena, MT local Lanie White finds both freedom and empowerment in mountain biking, and through her job at Prickly Pear Land Trust, she works to ensure the opportunity and experience is available for everyone.
Every mountain bike community has its individuals who are constantly striving to progress the sport. Be it trail building, advocacy, land management or retail, every avenue is an equally important part of creating a thriving movement. Montana Treasures is a series about a few of the many people who embody the state’s greater mountain bike scene through their actions and endeavors.

4K City Walks: Helena Montana 4K virtual treadmill walking tour
4K City Walks: Helena, Montana 4K virtual treadmill walking tour
Helena Montana is more than just the state capitol. It's a great city with great museums and restuarants and breweries and a love of the outdoors. Just minutes from the Missouri River and Canyon Ferry lake. It also has some wonderful history. I stopped off on my way to Whitefish to take a 45 minute walking tour through the city. I started at the capitol and made my way over to the walking mall and cathedral. I'm trying a new camera on this one so it's in full 4K video.
See links below that I mention in the video.
If you're visiting Helena and looking for things to do, here's a few we listed on one of our other channels:
Helena is the state capital of the U.S. state of Montana and the county seat of Lewis and Clark County.
Helena was founded as a gold camp during the Montana gold rush, and was established in 1864. Over $3.6 billion of gold was extracted in the city limits over a duration of two decades, making it one of the wealthiest cities in the United States by the late nineteenth century. The concentration of wealth contributed to the city's prominent, elaborate Victorian architecture.
At the 2010 census Helena's population was 28,190, making it the fifth least populous state capital in the United States and the sixth most populous city in Montana. It is the principal city of the Helena Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Lewis and Clark and Jeffersoncounties; its population is 77,414 according to the 2015 Census Estimate.
The local daily newspaper is the Independent Record. Professional sports teams include the Helena Bighorns Tier III Junior A hockey team. The city is served by Helena Regional Airport (HLN).
On July 14, 1864, the discovery of gold by a prospecting party referred to as the Four Georgians, in a gulch off the Prickly Pear Creek led to the founding of a mining camp along a small creek in the area they called Last Chance Gulch.
The townsite was first surveyed in 1865 by Captain John Wood. However, many of the original streets followed the chaotic paths of the miners, going around claims and following the winding gulch. As a result, few city blocks are consistent in size; rather they have an irregular variety of shapes and sizes
Reeder's Alley
Reeder's Alley is situated in the southwest corner of downtown Helena, the capitol of Montana. It is the oldest intact piece of early Helena. The property is a strong link to the beginnings of a settlement here, offering insights into the lives of miners, the Chinese influence, building techniques of the time, and life of the common men and women who came here seeking their fortune.
Today, Reeder's Alley is home to a great restaurant, caterer, a number of offices, non-profit organizations, and Visit Helena. Stop in and say hello when you walk through the alley.

I Travel: Montana - Glacier National Park - Helena - Great Falls (50 State Series)
Traveled to this wonderful and gorgeous state. The State of Montana is situated at the northern part of the US, and is part of the western mountain region. Traveled around June of 2018, and landed at the Helena Regional Airport.
Helena is the Capital city of the state. Top tourist spots are the Montana State Capitol, Historic museum (where a giant bull head skeleton structure is located), the Last Chance Gulch, Reeder’s Alley.
Drove 3 hours to reach the Glacier National Park Lodge from Helena. This National Park is the second most beautiful scenic park I have ever been to. Very relaxing and breathtaking views. Just be careful since this area is a bear country region.
Great Falls is another city in Montana. Visit the largest freshwater spring in the country at Great Springs Park, and see the amazing Great Falls yourself.
Helena,MT - Part 2 / If I Knew Then, What I Know Now-Gladys Knight, Kenny Rogers
(Eng/Pol) Helena was founded with the July 14, 1864 discovery of gold in the Prickly Pear valley. By 1888, about 50 millionaires lived in Helena, more per capita than any city in the world. About $3.6 billion (in today's dollars) of gold was taken from Last Chance Gulch over a 20-year period. Helena has been the capital of Montana Territory since 1875 and the state of Montana since 1889.
