The Last Post ceremony at Menin Gate, Ypres, Belgium, 18 April 2018.
Menen Poort, Ieper, 18 april 2018
Ceremony with deligation of the Royal Regiment of Scotland
True to its statutes, the Last Post Association wishes to honour and remember the soldiers of the British Empire who gave their lives during the Great War of 1914-1918. The Last Post ceremony seeks to express, day after day, the lasting debt of gratitude which we all owe to the men who fought and fell for the restoration of peace and the independence of Belgium.
With the passage of time, the meaning of the ceremony has become broader and deeper. When the bugles now blow, we no longer remember simply the fallen of the British Commonwealth, but also their comrades-in-arms from Belgium, France and many other allied nations, who willingly made the supreme sacrifice.
We remember, too, that many died on the other side of No Man's Land: enemies then, but partners now in a united Europe. In this sense, the Last Post is not only a mirror reflecting Europe's troubled past, but also a beacon of hope for all our futures.

The Last Post ceremony takes place every night at 8pm, at the Menin Gate in Ypres. This ceremony has taken place over 30,000 times, since the 1920's. Here is the beginning of the Last post ceremony, an event that you can see every single day at 8'Oclock sharp at the Menin Gate in Ypres or Ieper, Belgium. It commemorates all the fallen soldiers of the former British Empire who died in the area of Ypres during WWI.
It is possible to see it every single day whatever the weather. It shows that the Ode of remembrance is more than a poem, it is also all the things we do to remember our soldiers fallen during the Wars! I thought it was a moving ceremony so I wanted to share it. Enjoy.

The Last Post Ceremony From The Menin Gate Ypres (Ieper) | Euro Trip 2018 Pt18
We attended the Last Post Ceremony at The Menin Gate in Ypres (Ieper).
Every evening at 8pm precisely, the Last Post has been sounded since 1928 under the imposing arches of the Menin Gate. This memorial shaped like a Roman triumphal arch displays the names of 54.896 soldiers of the then British empire who went missing in action.
This memorial lists the names from the beginning of the war until 15 August 1917. The soldiers who went missing after 16 August 1917 until the end of the war, are mentioned on panels at Tyne Cot Cemetery in Passendale. There are 34.984 of them.
Tonight was special as it was the 100th anniversary of the 5th battle of Ypres, which was the beginning of the end for the German Empire in 1918.
The British suffered 4,695 casualties, the Belgians 4,500 net casualties from among 2,000 killed and 10,000 men ill or wounded.[15] The Allies advanced up to 18 mi (29 km), with an average advance of 6 mi (9.7 km) and captured c. 10,000 prisoners, 300 guns and 600 machine-guns. (Wikipedia)
