Latvian Museum of Photography
It is a national institution by the importance of the objects it conserves the research for a national identity, to rediscover past. It is hoped that a growing number of international visitors will find that the concerns of this country and its government are not just those of mercantile strength, technological ingenuity or ethnic self admiration.
The Museum answers the need for the collection, preservation and exhibition of national photographic values. Its research is directed into the history of Latvian photography as an inseparable and unique component of Latvian ethnic culture and into its role as part of the overall evolution of photography in the world.
The permanent exposition and exhibition gallery together with an archive and library facility covers 363 square meters presently.
The collection contains photographs, from those produced by historic processes of the 19th century (such as daguerrotypes), to our times; transparencies, negatives, photographic equipment, documents of archival value, books and magazines.
The Permanent Exposition
Illustrates the growth and development of photography in Latvia from 1839 to 1941, and contains daguerrotypes, ambrotypes, silver-gelatine photographs, and equipment.
Camera MINOX and full set of accessories represent technology of the 1930 ties.
The museum possesses full information on practical realization of this invention.
The collection of images gives insight in political and cultural history of Latvia.
Latvian Museum of Photography/ Latvijas Fotogrāfijas muzejs
The Latvian Museum of Photography is the only museum in Riga devoted to photography. The museum is a division of the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation and is open for visitors since 1993. It is situated in an old merchant building from the 16th century, and in the exhibition halls the renovated colorful wall paintings and the historic parquet flooring ornament can be seen. The building is located near the Riga Film Museum and the Latvian Sport Museum on Alksnaju street in one of the oldest building areas of Riga dated from year 1500.

Latvian Photography 2018
For the eight year in a row FK Magazine releases a publication with a focus on contemporary Latvian photography. This year the publication boasts the photo projects of Alnis Stakle, Līga Spunde, Toms Harjo, Andrejs Lavrinovičs and the winner of last year's FK Prize - Juris Zemīts. The publication includes a discussion with the authors, as well as the art critic Alise Tīfentāle’s essay.

Latvian Identity — Arnis Balčus — FK Artist
Arnis Balcus is a Latvian photographer, editor of FK Magazine and director of Riga Photomonth. His exhibition Exhibition After Exhibition was on view at the Latvian Museum of Photography from 27 September to 28 October 2018. Balcus, who is known for addressing such subjects as Latvian identity, Soviet legacy and Latvian-Russian relationships in his works, in this exhibition focused on the practice of the photographer/artist, his/her oeuvre, relations with the spectator and power. In this video he returns to a typical Latvian small-town called Tukums, where he did a project back in 2013.

Latvian Railway History Museum, Riga Branch
The Latvian Railway history museum was founded on August 30, 1994, along with the establishment of its two branches in Riga and Jelgava. In Riga, the museum is situated on the left bank of the Daugava River at Uzvaras Boulevard in an old engine warehouse
There are more than a thousand items, documents and photographs in the museum collection. Communications and signaling equipment, tools and instruments of railroad repairmen, uniforms and distinguishing badges, station interior objects, tickets and delivery notes are all on display. Station buildings and railway bridges built during the time of first Republic of Latvia, the history of the railway evolution in Riga city, as well as Latvian Railway personnel are shown in the exhibited documents and photographs.
The model railway of the Livberze and Spare stations, A. Kraulis, A. Straume, J. Boge and other specialists of New technical station of Jurmala created the model railway, using the scale 1:87. They designed a real situation at Livberze and Spare stations in the 1960's. On operation there are a diesel locomotive M62, passenger and freight carriages and a DR1 type diesel - engine train.

The main building of the Latvian National Museum of Art on Krišjāņa Valdemāra iela is one of the most impressive in the Park and Boulevard Circle area of Riga. It was designed by the museum's first director, the Baltic German architect and art historian Wilhelm Neumann and built in 1905. The structure, as well as the parameters of the exhibition rooms, corresponded to the level of requirements required standard for an art museum in the Europe of at the previous turn of the centuries. The majestic façade is designed in the baroque and classicist styles; the sculptural group of the central fronton was created by the sculptor August Volz. The interior of the building -- in the lobby and the ornaments of the staircase banister feature elements of Art Nouveau. The top-floor lobby is adorned by with six decorative semi-circle circular paintings by the great Latvian painter Vilhelms Purvītis and a master of Estonian classical art Gerhard von Rosen.
The building is a listed architectural landmark of national significance. Reconstruction and restoration work is scheduled in the foreseeable future.
The permanent exhibitions of the museum trace the development of professional art in the Baltic region and Latvia from the mid-1700s to the present day, as well as feature featuring a number of significant episodes periods in the Russian art of from the 18th century to the first half of the 20th century. The Russian art collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art is the richest in the Baltic countries.
In 2000 the museum was accredited and received confirmation from the State Authority of Museums its operation as a state recognized museum. The year 2000 also introduced important changes in the life of the museum; the Ministry of Culture abolished the Association of Latvian Art Museums and reorganized the structure of the member museums. It was decided to give independent legal status to individual museums. At the same time the Arsenāls Museum of Art was abolished being united with the State Museum of Art. On the basis of these two museums has been organized one united museum of national importance which since September 2005 has a new name -- the Latvian National Museum of Art.

The Latvian Railway History Museum is a railway museum in Riga, Latvia. It was established on August 30, 1994 and contains more than a thousand items, documents and photographs related to railway communications and signalling equipment, tools and instruments, uniforms and badges.

The mission of the National History Museum of Latvia is to collect, preserve, research and popularise spiritual and material culture from Latvia and the world from ancient times until today, which has archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic, historical or artistic significance, in the interests of the Latvian nation and its people.
On the March, 2008 Museum Park of Āraiši joined to the National History Museum of Latvia. The museum is the Lake Castle, which consists of reconstructions of buildings of Stone and Bronze Age where settlement of Latgalians in 9th -- 11th century was. There are also ruins of medieval castle dated back to Livonian time.
January 2010 Latvian Culture Museum Dauderi joined to the National History Museum of Latvia. Museum's building was built in 1897 as Waldschlössen (at present - Aldaris), family mansion of the owner Adolf von Bingner. It is surrounded with the park created in the beginning of 20th century by Georgs F. F. Kūfalts.
The Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation
The Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation is the oldest in Latvia and the the whole Baltics, and one of the oldest in Europe. The Museum is situated in Old Riga, in a remarkable architectural monument of the 13th20th centuries the ensemble of the Riga Dom.
The History of the Museum dates back to the 18th century. The rich and diverse collections of the Museum originated from an art and natural sciences collection of Nikolaus von Himsel (17291764), a Riga doctor. Upon his death, his mother Catherina von Himsel carried out his wish to have his collection handed over to the city of Riga. On 22 February 1773, the Riga Town Council founded a museum, named it after Himsel and allocated to it the premises of the so-called Anatomical Theatre at Kalēju Street 34/36 (the building has not survived). In 1791, the Himsel Museum was moved to the east wing of the Dom ensemble, which had been rebuilt to accommodate the city library and the museum. An evidence of this is the image of an astrolabe and the inscription Museum on the pediment of the building. In 1816, a special Arts Cabinet was opened, while in 1881 the merging the collections of the Himsel Museum and the City numismatic collection formed the City Coin Cabinet.

In the Latvian capital the details of the iron railings on the embankment began to disappear. During one night the details with the casting of Soviet symbols – the hammer and sickle in several parts of the parapet were gone. In the Riga city Council reported that nothing is not known about this fact.
