Travel journey:
This time we went to Iceland in the beginning of September 2017.
Our trip started with the famous Laugavegur trail.
We did it from Skögar to Landmannalaugar. The trail was safe to go, but be careful when there is a lot of rain!
We spent the nights in our tents and cabins.
The restaurant at the lake is worth it!
After our hike we hired a car to check some bucket list items and do some day trails.
A great experience with great company!

Iceland (Hiking the Laugavegur from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk, Part 1)
In September 2017 we did the Laugavegur Trail when the shelters were closed, so we had the whole trail for ourselves. It was an awesome experience of all kinds of weather and an overwhelmingly beautiful landcape!

Backpacking in Iceland - Laugavegur (Landmannalaugar - Þórsmörk) HD

**UPDATE**
I've been asked what I was carrying so here's a summary:
So basically....the clothes I was wearing and one spare set of clothes. I had full waterproofs - jacket & pants. Hat. Stove & gas bottle, 1 pan, 1 cup, spork, Trangia kettle, water bottles. head torch, trainers, small towel, minimum toiletries, guidebook, 2 season sleeping bag, Thermarest 3/4 length, tent with poles and pegs. Enough food for 4 days (couscous, tinned fish, pasta, tea and sugar, custard powder, noodles, porridge, cereal bars, mars bars, instant soups.)
I can't remember how long each day took, it's all down to the individual, but the first day is the hardest as it's all up hill. Day two involves some up hill but not as much as day one, and the last couple of days are easy and pretty much level. There were people of all ages doing the trail, so nothing to worry about.
The key is to travel light, don't be tempted to carry too much gear as you will pay the price in the long run. My rucksack was well below 18kg fully loaded.
Hope this helps.
Iceland's Laugavegur Trail: Camp at Landmannalaugar (Ep 1)
Day 1: Landmannalaugar was the starting point of our four-day-long backpacking trip on the Laugavegur trail. I was surprised to find out that Laugavegur is a shortened name of “The Landmannalaugar Trail”. The usual four day trail ends in Þórsmörk, but one or two days can be added, trekking then all the way to Skógar nearly at the coast via Fimmvörðuháls between the two glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull.

6/21/2019
This is day 0 of my 2-day Laugavegur hike. Took the morning bus from Reykjavik city hall to Landmannalaugar. In the afternoon, I did the short hike to Grænagil canyon. It was mostly soggy. I started to worry about the weather for the next two days on which I will hike 54km to Þórsmörk. After the last bus left, the sky cleared a bit and rainbow came out. Everyone from the hut stripped down and jumped into the hot spring. That made me feel better, as hot springs always do.

The Laugavegur Trek is well known as one of the best in the world. We were not able to catch the early bus so we decided to double up the first day and do the hike in 3 days instead of 4. The weather is well known for not a matter of if it will rain but when it will rain. We were extremely lucky and had clear skies nearly the whole time. We started in Landmannalaugar and worked our way south. July 8- July 11 2017.

Laugavegur Trail: Day 1, Landmannalaugar to Hrafntinnusker
6/22/2019
What a glorious day. The best weather I had in Iceland happened to fall on my big hiking day. All the colors were popping. POPPING! In a fellow hiker's words, Everything is so shiny. Even a local guide was wowed, You only get weather like this, maybe 3, 4 times a year.
The morning of 6/22/2019, I woke up at 2am in the Landmannalaugar hut. I saw blue sky, and wanted to pack up and go. But that's just too much. So I went back to sleep hoping when I wake up again it's still blue sky. I then woke up at 4am, and left the hut with the rising sun on my back. There's not a soul on trail. Just me and the elements. As I got higher the view got better. All I heard was the breeze in my ears and my footsteps on the crust of overnight snow. It's a special moment.
I arrived at Hrafntinnusker hut at 7am. A couple of hut guests were out on the deck enjoying the warm rays of sunshine, while most were still sleeping inside. I filled up my bottle and pressed on.
