Launceston Steam Railway 2019
I visited the Launceston Steam Railway whilst on holiday in North Devon. A very interesting narrow gauge railway that operates with restored Victorian steam locomotives and coaches. It runs between Launceston and New Mills (where there is a Farm Park). Well worth a visit but note that it only runs on certain days and the gates don't open until 30 mins before the scheduled departure of the first train. Nice café and friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Narrow Gauge Railways of Great Britain The Launceston Steam Railway July 2016
I have kept the best to last! Monday we went to the Launceston Steam Railway, this is the railway we missed on our last holiday to Cornwall, this was two years ago and we really wanted to make another visit. We weren't disappointed what a lovely railway just like stepping back in time, Nigel and Kay Bowman have done a great job,not forgetting all the helpers. So much to see at this railway and you can ride all day for the price of your ticket.
The atmosphere was so laid back,we would love to have another visit, the Hunslet loco's were lovely also.
The museum has so much to see and I would have loved to take some of the motor bikes home with me.
Thank you to Nigel for allowing us both to have a ride in the cab of Lilian, this really made Rosie's and my holiday.
Please,Please visit this railway if you're in Devon or Cornwall.

A visit to the Launceston Steam Railway. Firstly a little bit of the journey from Newmills to Launceston and then 2 of the locomotives shunting at Launceston itself.
A special visitor to the railway is Darjeeling Himalayan Railway B class number 19 which is shown shunting around.
Launceston Steam Railway Cornwall, 1980s - Film 61562
Launceston Steam Railway, Cornwall 1980s. Various views of tourist trains in operation. Close up of stoking the boiler and an engineer at the controls. Close up of the emblem of The Hunslet Engine Co Ltd and engine ‘Lilian’. Narrow gauge steam train on North Cornwall line filmed from overhead as it goes under a bridge. Lots of steam. The train is then filmed from the rear as it moves further away from the bridge.
Launceston Steam Railway - 27/07/12
A visit to the 2½ mile long Launceston Steam Railway. Opened in 1983 and built on the part of the track bed of the former LSWR line from Halwill Junction to Padstow it runs from a station in Launceston just west of the original LSWR station, to a station at New Mills which opened in 1995. For motive power the line utilises Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0STs, of which there are four, Lilian, Covertcoat, Velinheli and Dorothea. Our loco for the day was Covertcoat and we take a ride along the line to New Mills and back. Afterwards we take a quick look at Dorothea who has recently come to the end of a long restoration, we also take a look at the ruins of the town's Priory. After that we see Covertcoat make a slippy departure with her train to New Mills, then we have a look around the shed (with permission of course) where we see the frames of a new rail car being built for use on the line, as well as Vertical Boilered loco no.89 Perseverance and Lilian. After the shed visit we take a look at the museum where there are a few vintage cars, machines and a traction engine, as well as my hand making a quick cameo. We also see Velinheli who appears to be in the process of an overhaul. Outside the museum we see what looks like scrap boilers and Velinheli's own boiler. Later on Covertcoat is seen having arrived back on the last train of the day and backs off the water tower then pulls herself up the small incline and backs down into the shed.

So much more than trains to see at Launceston station. I was very fortunate to be given a tour of the shed by a couple of the great guys there including the founder of the line.
Launceston Town Centre. Launceston Cornwall England
Discover more about Launceston, what to see and do when you visit. The town, often described as a gem is high on the 'to-do' list for many visitors to the county. Follow the town trails, buy a pasty, and enjoy the views from the castle green.
Down in the valley, below Launceston Castle lays Newport. Here the River Kensey flows through beautiful countryside and the steam train puffs on the line to Newmills. The tranquillity of the area belies its importance in both Launceston and Cornwall's history.
Perseverance Puffs to Newmills (Launceston Steam Railway)
The quirky vertical boilered locomotive 'Perseverance' which lives here has an outing to Newmills. Hauling a Penrhyn Fullersite wagon and with numerous stops along the way, the trip was reminiscent of the old local goods trains which would stop to pick up freight numerous times en route.
