The Laurance S. Rockefeller Visitor Center
Not a lot of words, not a lot of decoration. The Visitor Center is a celebration of nature. As you turn the corner from the entrance, you are greeted with this dimmed room of 4 nature portrait videos. Each shows a changing display of nature scenes, highlighted only by the sounds it depicts. The only other object in the room is a light mural, a large mural of the mountains reflected in a lake. The mural is comprised of thousands of smaller photos of nature. A completely beautiful presentation. If you turn up the audio, you can hear the sounds. What a perfect way to introduce people to this place and the beautiful things they'll see and hear here. As LSR said: Nature quiets the mind by engaging an intelligence larger than our own.

Our 6th day of our trip. we left West Yellowstone, entered into Yellowstone and exited the south entrance passing through the John D. Rockefeller Parkway before finally entering into Grand Teton National Park. Starting from the north we reached the northern end of Jackson Lake view the mountain range in a some what parallel perspective. Continuing down the highway we reached numerous overlooks in front of the beautiful Teton mountain range. The most unique of those stops, was Mormon Row where a number of old homes and barns still stand with the Tetons set a perfect backdrop. Here you will also find the infamous Moulton Barn also. Continuing south, we finally reached the little western town of Jackson, Wyoming for dinner and a nice night our for drinks at a cowboy bar and some cowboy dancing.
Next day, we drove up to Jackson Hole Ski Resort. At the time it was closed but was a good stop to see what the hype is all about. We attempted to hike in the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve but after .5 miles our trail became covered in snow. Heading further north we made stops at the Chapel of the Transfiguration, an old community, Jenny Lake and a gravel beach before making turn back south back to Jackson for dinner.
Our last day of our whole trip, we took advantage of an early morning for a nice horseback riding venture miles out from Jackson for a last view of the Teton Mountain Range. From there, we set off For Idaho Falls, bringing us great memories of an amazing trip to two beautiful national Parks.

Eagle's Nest at the Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis
Eagle’s Nest – A Unique Opportunity to Create a Family Compound in a Sanctuary Setting Right Next to Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club
A sanctuary with sweeping Teton views from floor to ceiling windows in almost every room - this 5,756 SF home, rests on 2.6 acres and 3 lots. A stream runs through it, 3 footbridges, a gazebo and a walking path tucked behind mature landscaping.
Birds eye 360-degree views are unobstructed and enhanced by two extra parcels - the perfect opportunity to build additional retreats that are just a 4-minute walk to the amenities at the JH Golf & Tennis Club.
Upon arrival, a waterfall and stone circular driveway invite you into a warm entryway. Walk out of sliding glass doors onto a 2,982 SF deck with a hot tub.
The master suite has a private deck, his and hers bathrooms with steam shower and sauna, and one of four fireplaces in the home. The guest wing has 4 bedrooms, 2 of which are en suite.
The modern stone and wood house is named Eagle’s Nest because it is perched so gloriously and laid out with accordion-like birds wings to maximize the dramatic views.
Imagine gazing up at the moonlit Tetons from the hot tub or watching the sunset reflect off the Sleeping Indian under the Gazebo or from a lounge chair on the private deck outside the master bedroom.
An additional easement that the existing homeowner acquired creates yet another intimate outdoor space along the creek for an afternoon read, an easel for a plein air landscape painting or a space to incorporate in a site for an artist’s studio.
The stained glass window in the entryway features a scene of geese flying off into a purple and green sunset. Museum like glass shelves and long walls for showcasing art may distract the eye for a moment, but the gravity of the mountains pulls you into the main living space and brings the outside in. The 1,000 square foot great room has built in bookshelves, deep storage closets and a wet bar. The chef’s kitchen between the family room and the dining room is functional in form and detail, with Subzero appliances and a built in Thermador gas grill. In addition to the main connection with nature through the vast picture windows, natural light filters in from 13 skylights.
A well kept legacy home, the Eagle’s Nest has four wood burning fireplaces, a feature that would not be allowed under current building codes that limit homes to one wood burning fireplace. It is equipped with practicality, including a 1,292 three-car garage with extra storage space, three heating systems and dehumidifiers, a security system an intercom and a backup generator give the home an added sense of security, and a 1,000 gallon propane tank that feeds the fireplaces, gas grills, hot tub burners and the fire pit in the gazebo. But most importantly, it is one of the most picturesque places in the Jackson Hole area to view wildlife and nature.
The setting where Paul McColister, the founder of Jackson Hole Ski Corp. and Laurance Rockefeller decided to build Jackson’s first golf course, was no accident. It is a special place chosen for its views of the Teton, Snake and Gros Ventre mountain ranges.
The club makes for a great next door neighbor because of all of its open green space. Work out, go swimming, golfing, or play tennis with the kids. Finish your match with a meal at the poolside grill or take the family for a fine dining experience at the North Grille. The club offers an active family plenty of choices both day and night. Ever since the Robert Trent Jones II designed course opened in 1956 and renovated in 1999, it has consistently been in Golf Digest’s top 100 golf courses in the country.
Grab a pair of hiking boots, snowshoes or skis from the mudroom, get in your car and you are at the gateway to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, a mere 16 miles from world class skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort or just 9 miles from the town of Jackson. In addition to the private walking trail around the property, there are 69 miles of public pathways nearby. See for more information.
