Here's Some Info On Somerset, Pa
Somerset ( /ˈsʌmərsɛt/) is a borough in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,277 at the 2010 census.[1] The borough is surrounded by Somerset Township. It is the county seat of Somerset County.[2] Somerset is just off Exit 110 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-70 and I-76).
History
The Somerset County Courthouse and Uptown Somerset Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[3]
[edit]Geography
Somerset is located at 40°0′25″N 79°4′53″W (40.006920, -79.081297)[4].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.7 square miles (7.0 km2), all of it land.
Somerset has the ninth-highest elevation of towns in Pennsylvania, at 2,190 feet (670 m) above sea level.[5]
[edit]Climate
Somerset has a humid continental climate that is affected by the high elevation, rendering them colder much of the winter than Altoona, Johnstown, or State College, despite being well south of either location, although the average winter high temperatures are a bit higher. Somerset holds the June and November record lows for the state of Pennsylvania. Somerset is also the only place in Pennsylvania to receive accumulations of snow in June before (other places at most received a partial dusting), and due to the arctic air, it was powdery snow that was photographed being swept off porches with brooms.

The mountains making up the Laurel Highlands are the highest in Pennsylvania, with Mount Davis in Somerset County the highest point in the state at 3,213 feet (979 m). Because of the elevation, weather in the Laurel Highlands is generally cooler and wetter than in most other parts of the state.

The river provides some of the best whitewater boating in the Eastern United States. Ohiopyle State Park is bisected by Pennsylvania Route 381 south of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The park opened to the public in 1965, but was not officially dedicated until 1971.

Taking the Long way to Work (October 2016) Backroads of Allegheny & Westmoreland County, PA
I usually don't wake up any earlier than necessary to get to work at 8AM. I try to leave by 7AM and pay to take the PA Turnpike. Today I needed to get some blood work done for our Get Healthy program which allows employees to save money on their Employer Sponsored Health Insurance. SInce it is difficult to find a Quest Diagnostics that is open early enough to get blood work before work, I decided to go to an old favorite- the New Kensington Location. This center is about 30 miles from my house and 30 miles from my work (making my normal 46 mile commute about 62 miles). the total time in this video is over an hour and 45 minutes at 20X time lapse. I take all kinds of backroads through Northern Allegheny County, and cross the Allegheny River into Westmoreland County. I then make the mistake of going to the old Quest location (from 3 years ago- which is the last time I went to this location). I quickly find out the new location, which is close by, get my blood drawn, and take backroads from far Northern Westmoreland County to Southern Westmoreland County, PA (New Stanton). It gets light at the end and the Laurel Mountains appear briefly while driving South on Route 66. This is before daylight savings time so the sunrise in Western Pennsylvania is about 8AM.
Exploring Laurel Mountain Cross Country Ski Trails and Full Snow Moon with Mike Ciccone (2-9-2017)
Someone at work told me to check out the cross country ski trails on Laurel Mountain, above Ligonier, PA. I did not want to waste gas, and knew that I would arrive right as it was getting dark, but went anyway since I did not know if I would see any more snow during the disappointing winter of 2017. The drive was beautiful and the snow depth increased from 6 at New Stanton, PA to 14 at Laurel Mountain Cross Country Ski Area. I tried to make a loop on some of the trails on Laurel Mountain, but could not figure out how to get back when I ended up at the Down Hill Ski area. I ended up retracing my steps back on this 3 hour night odyssey under the full snow moon. I only scratched the surface of what Laurel Mountain has to offer, covering about 5% of the trails. there are multiple parking lots, and looks, with at least 30 miles of free cross country ski trails (some groomed and some not groomed) inside Laurel Mountain State Park, PA. This sure beats Laurel Ridge where the ski trails are $8 an they are closed most of the time. I saw other cross country skiiers out with headlamps. Some were just showing up while I was leaving at 8PM. The temperature was a windy 20 degrees with plenty of blowing and drifting snow.

Laurel Highlands - Special Places
Crowned by three ridges along southwestern Pennsylvania’s skyline, the Laurel Highlands is home to eight of the state’s 10 highest summits, including the highest, Mt. Davis, at 3,200 feet above sea level. From mountain laurel thickets, cool headwaters percolate through more than 200 square miles of state forest and parks. Class A wild trout streams, such as Camp Run and Laurel Run and dozens of other popular fisheries, form the Laurel Highlands Trout Trail, a 70-mile region attracting anglers from nearby Pittsburgh and neighboring states to fish for trout and take in the scenery.
Mysterious Road Defies Gravity in Pittsburgh - Gravity Hill, Pennsylvania

Let's take a look at this mysterious road that defies gravity in Pittsburgh. It is very intriguing and apparently nobody knows that such a strange road exists here. Towards the end of the video, I'll give you the exact address, and you can go check it out for yourself and may be take your friends and freak them out.
We are sitting inside my car and the road is clearly going downhill. So, we take the car downhill and stop at this stop sign. Now, we put the car in neutral. But, when you take your feet of the gas and the brake - instead of moving forward, the car starts moving backwards. Why is the car going uphill on this road? And its starts accelerating so fast, we have to hit the brakes and stop the car!
This is really hard to believe and some of you may even wonder if I am using camera tricks to fool you. So, I went home and came back with a few things. I am pushing this ball downhill and watch what happens. It goes down because of my push, but then it stops and starts to roll back up hill, and knocks down my camera. Why do things defy the law of gravity on this road?
I'll give you the exact address of this strange road, so if you live in Pennsylvania, you can test it for yourself. It is located at the intersection of McKinney Road, and Kummer Road in Allison Park, Pittsburgh. There is more than one intersection between these roads, so it's a little hard to find this spot. On my Tom Tom GPS, the address that I enter is 601 McKinney Road, Allison Park. The longitude and latitude coordinates are 40.612790 and -80.026050.
Now, I am going to explain why such a mysterious phenomenon is happening on this road. There is a scientific explanation behind it, even though I personally find it hard to believe. I am placing a carpenter's level on the road, and incredibly it shows that this road is NOT going downhill. But when you see it with your naked eye, you can swear that it is going downhill. Somehow, the carpenter's level clearly shows that the road is going downhill towards the opposite direction, which explains why the cars and balls rolled back from the stop sign. This is known as a Gravity Hill Phenomenon. The road seems to be playing a clever trick with my eyes and even with my camera, it seems impossible to believe that the road is going down on the opposite direction.
If you live around Pittsburgh, please do drive to this place and take a look at this road. Remember to take a few people with you, and believe me they will be really shocked.
I hope you liked this video, I am finding a lot of intriguing stuff like this, so please do subscribe to my channel. Thank you for watching and talk to you soon.

Mile 21- 22 Northbound: A Trail Runners Guide to the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail
This is mile 21 to 22 of the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. This 70.5 mile state trail traverses the state's largest Ridge (Laurel Mountain, Laurel Hill, Laurel Ridge, Laurel Summit). This section is approximately 2 miles North of the Route 653 (Laurel Ridge State Park Access- which is also home to the Laurel Ridge Cross Country Ski area). The next access point to the North is 4 miles away at the Southern end of Seven Springs Ski Resort. This section also has a breathtaking view (look to the left and you will see some rocks (probably toward the middle of the mile). They are a great place to have lunch and look to the West toward Chestnut Ridge (the other mountain in the Laurel Mountains. the Laurel Mountains are 2 extra mountains west of the main section of the Allegheny/ Appalachian mountains. Chestnut and Laurel Ridge are both relatively gently sloped compared to the mountains in central and eastern, PA. This is area is sometimes referred to the Laurel Highlands, since the area between Chestnut Ridge, to Allegheny Mountain (about 10-20 miles east of Laurel Mountain- distance generally increases to the North) Regrettably the end of this file was lost. If you watch the Mile 22-21 Southbound section you can see what is not shown in this video (headed in the opposite direction).
The trail begins at Ohiopyle State Park in Fayette County and it's Northern Terminus is in Seward, PA (at the extreme Northeast corner of Westmoreland County, PA. Depending on which side of the ridge the trail meanders through one also enters Somerset and Cambria Counties periodically. This trail is extremely green and shaded in the summer, and typically 10-15 degrees cooler than the surrounding area as it reaches elevations close to 3,000' Above Sea Level in Places and rarely dips below 2,400' elevation except at the North and the South end of the trail, and maybe a few spots early on. I hope to replace both videos completely at some point in the future, but first I want to get version 1 of the Trail Runners Guide to the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail Out. All videos should be from June to about November of 2016. There could be several later than that (as I lost track)
