The Giant Standing Buddha (Lay Kyun Sae' Kyar Muni) in Monywa, Myanmar
Po Win Taung , Monywa - HD
Phowintaung , also spelt as Hpowindaung, Powintaung, Po Win Taung) is a Buddhist cave complex located approximately 25 kilometers west of Monywa and 10 kilometers southeast of Yinmabin, in Yinmabin Township, Monywa District, Sagaing Region, Northern Burma (Myanmar). It is located on the western bank of the Chindwin River. The name of the complex means Mountain of Isolated Solitary Meditation
The hill, a soft volcanic rock, It's a huge, multi-level Buddhist religious complex with about 800 rock-cut caves, which vary from a simple meditation cell to an imposing temple. The facades are decorated in low and high reliefs, with some entrances flanked by human or animal sculptures in the round. The interiors of the grottoes contain numerous statues carved into the rock and over 100 caves are adorned with mural paintings illustrating traditional scenes (the 28 Buddha of the Past, previous lives of Buddha, and the Life of Buddha Gotama) including scenes of daily life. For the most part, the creations of Po Win Taung date from the second Ava period (16th - 18th centuries), and to a lesser extent, to the colonial period (last quarter of 19th till mid 20th centuries).
This work defines the characteristics of the « Nyaung Yan » style, generally designated as the « Ava » style, a period which is little known to the oriental art world. The artistic treasures of Po Win Taung allow us to explore and comprehend this style to a much greater extent. They show a profound syncretism harmonizing local pre-buddhist beliefs and the fundamental teachings of Theravâda Buddhism as well as the different sources of inspiration

Laykyun Setkyar Standing Buddha - Facts, About and History
Thanks for watching...
The Laykyun Sekkya Buddha is, as of 2016, one of the top three tallest statues in the world at 116 metres (381 ft). This statue of Gautama Buddha stands on a 13.5-metre (44 ft) throne located in the village of Khatakan Taung, near Monywa, Myanmar. Construction began in 1996 and it was completed on 21 February 2008. It was commissioned by the Chief Abbot Ven. Nãradã.
Gautama Buddha (c. 563 BCE/480 BCE – c. 483 BCE/400 BCE), also known as Siddhartha Gautama , Shakyamuni Buddha or simply the Buddha, after the title of Buddha, was an ascetic (srama?a) and sage, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. He is believed to have lived and taught mostly in the eastern part of ancient India sometime between the sixth and fourth centuries BCE.
Gautama taught a Middle Way between sensual indulgence and the severe asceticism found in the srama?a movement common in his region. He later taught throughout other regions of eastern India such as Magadha and Kosala.
Gautama is the primary figure in Buddhism. He is recognized by Buddhists as an enlightened teacher who attained full Buddhahood, and shared his insights to help sentient beings end rebirth and suffering. Accounts of his life, discourses, and monastic rules are believed by Buddhists to have been summarized after his death and memorized by his followers. Various collections of teachings attributed to him were passed down by oral tradition and first committed to writing about 400 years later.
Scholars are hesitant to make unqualified claims about the historical facts of the Buddha's life. Most accept that he lived, taught and founded a monastic order during the Mahajanapada era during the reign of Bimbisara (c.?558 – c.?491 BCE, or c. 400 BCE), the ruler of the Magadha empire, and died during the early years of the reign of Ajatasatru, who was the successor of Bimbisara, thus making him a younger contemporary of Mahavira, the Jain tirthankara. Apart from the Vedic Brahmins, the Buddha's lifetime coincided with the flourishing of influential Srama?a schools of thought like Ajivika, Carvaka, Jainism, and Ajñana. Brahmajala Sutta records sixty-two such schools of thought. It was also the age of influential thinkers like Mahavira (referred to as 'Nigantha Nataputta' in Pali Canon), Pura?a Kassapa, Makkhali Gosala, Ajita Kesakambali, Pakudha Kaccayana, and Sañjaya Bela??haputta, as recorded in Samaññaphala Sutta, whose viewpoints the Buddha most certainly must have been acquainted with. Indeed, Sariputta and Moggallana, two of the foremost disciples of the Buddha, were formerly the foremost disciples of Sañjaya Bela??haputta, the skeptic; and the Pali canon frequently depicts Buddha engaging in debate with the adherents of rival schools of thought. There is also philological evidence to suggest that the two masters, Alara Kalama and Uddaka Ramaputta, were indeed historical figures and they most probably taught Buddha two different forms of meditative techniques. Thus, Buddha was just one of the many srama?a philosophers of that time. In an era where holiness of person was judged by their level of asceticism, Buddha was a reformist within the srama?a movement, rather than a reactionary against Vedic Brahminism. While the general sequence of birth, maturity, renunciation, search, awakening and liberation, teaching, death is widely accepted, there is less consensus on the veracity of many details contained in traditional biographies.
The times of Gautama's birth and death are uncertain. Most historians in the early 20th century dated his lifetime as circa 563 BCE to 483 BCE. More recently his death is dated later, between 411 and 400 BCE, while at a symposium on this question held in 1988, the majority of those who presented definite opinions gave dates within 20 years either side of 400 BCE for the Buddha's death. These alternative chronologies, however, have not yet been accepted by all historians.

22 Monywa Standing Buddha, Myanmar (Burma)
We Said Go Travel During our drive we could begin to see the 420ft tall Buddha and the lying Buddha which is also enormous. It is the largest Standing Buddha in Asia but perhaps in the world. Prior to arriving at the complex with the enormous Buddhas, we saw a garden of Buddhas sitting under their umbrellas. We climbed up staircase after staircase (which reminded us all of Mandalay Hill) and found the shopping pavilions closing up. At last we reached the platform for the lying Buddha around the back you can enter the lying Buddha in his left posterior. We ascended more stairs and reached the colossal Standing Buddha with its vast pavilion which at nearly sunset was empty. The stunning view of the area with the last rays of the sun made this brobidigian Buddha seem even more incredible and golden. There was construction on the giant Buddha but you can go up to the 17th floor of the 40 stories.
Boddhi-Tataung (1000 Buddhas) is four kilometers from Thanboddhay Pagoda in a grove of Banyan trees, which each have a Buddha image at its base. A good place for meditation and thinking. See the other videos of Thanboddhay Pagoda and Hop Win Daung Caves where we went earlier on the same day in Monywa, Myanmar (Burma).
