R&W Marrickville Presents Lazy Bones Jazz Bar
Aris:
Hi it's Aris from R&W, welcome to this month's Marrickville Presents. We're in a really, really cool, funky jazz bar by the name of Lazy Bones. I'm sure everyone in Marrickville knows all about it and we've got the proprietor here today Craig who we going to ask a few questions.
Craig:
It will be four years this July.
Aris:
What made you want to open this business in Marrickville?
Craig:
It reminded me of an area in Melbourne, East Richmond and the bar there on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy and it just reminded me of that multi cultural fusion of Greeks, Vietnamese, Australians and that. I fell in love with it immediately.
All ages, because we play Jazz predominantly and what happens is the demographics of age goes from 18 up to 65, 70. It's pretty much a cool place just to hang out and listen to live music sit and [inaudible].
Aris:
You're open seven nights a week?
Craig:
Seven nights a week, 20 bands a week. Full cocktail, whiskey bar, food the works. Yeah.
I think the people. I think people are very liberal minded and very community spirited. I think that it ... you have that local business thing that they want you to support you or to help you. There's lot's of support for local business to outfit and remodel, little things like that and actually being very supportive of what you need to succeed. It`s very good.
I think that it's one of the best live music venues in Sydney at the moment. Also the fact that, what I didn't know when I first came to Marrickville is a huge percentage of musicians actually live in Marrickville and suddenly I've learned once I opened and they just came out of the woodwork. Just down Illawarra Road we've got Full Stack from Thirsty Merk, we've got Dave and Nicky that played with Buddy Rich Big Band, in New York for twenty years. Got, Bobby Gebert, one of Australia's great jazz pianist lives up the road. They just live here. They walk up and down the street.
Aris:
Great that's it from me. Thanks very much for watching and we'll see you next month. Bye for now.

“Are you listening, Sydney?” LazyBones Lounge, Marrickville Tuesday 9th October, 2018. 7.30pm Doors/Restaurant 6pm, “Are you listening, Sydney? asks this city of 5 million “are you aware of some of the music happening in your better venues?” It’s a celebration of some of the best music in Sydney ....with the recent closure of a couple of Sydney music clubs, and much over-vigilant regulation of many others, fresh in mind.
