The Dordogne, France: Lascaux's Prehistoric Cave Paintings
More info about travel to the Dordogne: From about 18,000 to 10,000 B.C., long before Stonehenge and the pyramids, back when mammoths and saber-toothed cats still roamed the earth, prehistoric people painted deep inside caves in what is today the Dordogne region of France. These cave paintings are huge and sophisticated projects executed by artists and supported by an impressive culture — the Magdalenians.

LOST AND ALONE IN THE PARIS CATACOMBS
Right then. This one didn't really go to plan. On my last few days in Paris, I decided it would only be right if I made a trip to the Paris Catacombs. So, after hitting up the legal tour, I planned a trip to the less legal ones, but ended up going deeper in than I'd planned. Lost for almost 3 hours, it didn't go at all as planned, but luckily I didn't end up missing.
History: The catacombs started life as a huge limestone mine, but in the latter half of the 18th century, in 1786, these quarries were consecrated, turning them into the Paris Catacombs . This happened when grave sites began to become too overpopulated. All the bones from the Les Innocents Cemetery were transferred to the catacombs over the space of 2 years due to them becoming too full. However over the following decades, the bones of the dead were removed from cemeteries around Paris for reburial in the catacombs, before the burying of the newly dead in the catacombs began after the French Revolution. There are roughly 6 million people buried under there now, in the 200 mile long network of tunnels. Anyway, enjoy the vid guys...

Sébastien Chabal Tribute - The Caveman
Tribute to former French international second row and back rower Sébastien Chabal - the caveman!
Sébastien Chabal (born 8 December 1977) is a retired French rugby union player. He played number eight and lock professionally for the French team Bourgoin (1998–2004); the English team Sale Sharks (2004–2009); the French team Racing Métro 92 Paris (2009–February 2012); and the French national side. He earned his first international cap on 4 March 2000 against Scotland. He represented France in 62 games scoring six tries; two against Italy in the 2007 Six Nations Championship; a match-winning try against England in the run-up to the 2007 Rugby World Cup; two against Namibia in the 2007 Rugby World Cup; and one against Italy in the 2009 Six Nations Championship. He was one of the most popular sportsmen in France, so much that local journalists write and talk about Chabalmania.

The Channel Tunnel Documentary
This #Engineering Documentary details the design and construction of the one of the boldest engineering challenge undertaken. The Channel Tunnel is a 50 km rail link running beneath the English Channel, connecting The UK and France at Folkestone, Kent and Coquelles, Pas-de-Calais respectively.
The tunnel began construction in 1988 with the tunnel being dug simultaneously from France and Britain with 11 massive Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM’s). Approximately 20 million passengers are ferried through the tunnel every year with a travel time of about 35 minutes.
Tunnelling was a major engineering challenge, it being the second such project in the world to be undertaken after the undersea Seikan Tunnel in Japan. Due to the pressure from the sea above, a serious water inflow risk to the tunnel existed. Also being privately funded, the tunnel was under tremendous time constraint since early return of investment was paramount.
The tunnel project operational model was known as a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) project with a concession. BOOT projects typically involve significant design and construction as well as long term operations. TransManche Link (TML) would design and build the tunnel, but financing was through a separate legal entity, Eurotunnel. Eurotunnel acquired Channel Tunnel Group (CTG) and France Manche (FM) and signed a construction contract with TML, but the French and British governments controlled the engineering and safety aspects, now being the responsibility of the Channel Tunnel Safety Authority. The British and French governments gave Eurotunnel a 55-year operating concession (from 1987 to 2052) in order to repay loans and pay dividends. A Railway Usage Agreement guaranteeing future revenue was signed between British Rail , Eurotunnel, and SNCF in exchange for the railways obtaining half of the tunnel's capacity.
Power is delivered to the locomotives via an overhead line at 25 kV 50 Hz. All tunnel services run on electricity, shared equally from English and French sources. There are two sub-stations fed at 400 kV at each terminal, but in an emergency the tunnel's lighting (about 20,000 light fittings) and plant can be powered solely from either England or France.
The project was not without incident however, with ten workers being killed, eight of them British, most in the first few months of construction. There were also fire incidents breaking out in the years 1996, 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2015.
Despite all these challenges and budget overruns, the Channel Tunnel was finally completed in 1994 at a cost of $8.4 billion from the original planned $4.7 billion. The completed project was opened by Queen Elizabeth II and French President François Mitterrand on May 6 1994.

Exploring Secret Bars in Paris: Enter through the freezer of a pizzeria?! PARIS VLOG
Hello you beautiful humans! In today's weekly Paris Vlog I'm taking you with me to discover one of the Secret Bars in Paris! This was my first time visiting a speakeasy in Paris (I talk about the Lavomatic, which is in a laundry mat speakeasy as well) and it was quite an experience. My sister found out about the place in this video called Moonshiner, a Paris speakeasy hidden inside (or rather through) the freezer of a pizzeria in Bastille. I love discovering alternative nightlife in Paris and testing out different bars so I was totally down to try out this French take on prohibition.
AlthoughI moved to France a few years ago I still never heard of this pizzeria, so I thought that I would vlog the experience and take you francophiles with me.
I know what you guys are thinking--it's a hidden bar, so why tell the world about it? Why give away all of the Paris tips and secrets? Okay, okay calm down Susan. As we all know, prohibition is long over, and the secret bar tactic in big cities like NYC, London or Paris is a marketing scheme to get people excited OK?! So while me, my sister and my brother in law enjoyed the experience---the mystique surrounding the speakeasy was much greater than the actual place. I mean, it was pretty cool walking through a freezer to find a completely different atmosphere on the other side but the regular old bar we went to later (well I don't know if you could call it that...The Monkey has actual fire on the bar and a giant tree) was just as good. So, A unique experience? Yes. A must do? Ehhhh. It's a bit pricey. It's a cool first date idea though, I'll give you that! If you are traveling to Paris, stay tuned for a video about nightlife in Paris an my top alternative/quirky bars coming soon. That about sums up my little excerpt of this Paris speakeasy vlog---for more of my writing visit my alternative Paris blog WWW.witchyParis.com where I give Paris tips and bi*ch about French administration.
Please give me a thumbs up if you enjoyed this video and subscribe if you want to see more videos from me!
