Morocco + Coastal City of Essaouira
This coastal town is a laid back version of Marrakech and is full of fresh seafood, old souks and epic sunsets. We kickstarted our Moroccan holiday with a couple of nights in Essaouira. Click 'show more' to see my itinerary.

Souk strolling
Dinner at Adwak (best local food had in the entire trip)
DAY 2

Souk strolling and shopping
Dinner at Adwak
TIPS
1. We caught a bus from Marrakech. Both CTM and Supratour are comfortable.
2. Taxi drivers will rip you off so be careful and bargain.
3. Do not miss the sunsets on the beach.
4. Adwak restaurant in the souk does amazing food.
5. Taros restaurant is great for views and ambience but food is average. Go for drinks instead.
6. At night the souks get quiet so best to grab a restaurant.

Essaouira: Amazing Fortress and Medina-City in Morocco
Come and explore the exotic city of Essaouira, Morocco. The city is on the Atlantic Coast and is a 1000-year Unesco-protected location with history from the caravans, Portuguese trade, and a former French colony fortress. Located near an amazing beach with sun, blue sky and surf, the city is a maze of walkways with shops and restaurants for locals and tourists. Enjoy a meal, hear the sound of the Call to Prayer, browse the shops, see the historic fort of Sqala de la Ville, and experience an underground tunnel. Essaouira, truly an amazing place. We then drive back to Marrakech into the sunset and eat a local meal in an amazing restaurant

The liquid gold of Essaouira (Morocco vlog)
The Liquid GOLD of Essaouira.
Our first vlog in Morocco takes us to Essaouira, the hidden gem at the atlantic coast. Forget Fes or Marrakech- Essaouira has a lot of surprises for the tourist. The old town Medina (UNESCO world heritage site), the hassle-free shops, the food, the bars, the vibe, the music, the arts, the windy sea (a Mecca for surfers and kitesurfers) and much more.
We got lost for a day in the labyrinth of narrow streets and passages, being forever charmed by the blue sky, the white houses, the golden ramparts, the remote beaches and the coulourful and friendly people.
After losing our GoPro hero 6 to the waves of the Atlantic ocean (gone forever :( ) in the morning we were amazed how many cats can be on the empty morning streets. Slowly the tow awakes to life, with its explosion of sound, taste and colours.
Walking around the streets we had a lot of fun negotiating prices for souvenirs, tasting the amazing olives and meeting crezy people like the ones dancing on the street, like the other guy trying to sell us „homemade cookies with drugs or like the third one who asked Alecsandra to sell him her eyes (!) for 1 million dollars. US! :))
There's nothing more than a walk in the dawn on the beach and ending up the evening in one of Essaouiras original bars or restaurants.
Next morning we went after THE LIQUID GOLD- the amazing and so trendy Argan Oil. Here there are a lot of women „co-operatives where the precious oil is produced from the Argan fruits. We visited such a co-operative and tried to work along with the women. And yeah, we found out also what the difference between the cosmetic oil and the one for cooking is!

The Interesting Fish Market - Essaouira, Morocco
Essaouira, Morocco is picturesque, engrossing and friendly. Take a walk through the old Port du Skala to see for yourself. And even think about rising at the crack of dawn to see the fishermen return from the Atlantic with in their blue boats loaded down with fresh fish.
Walk into the big square from the water and browse the stalls selling eels, crabs, spiny lobsters, calamari, scampi. You can buy by weight and cook yourself or pick a stall to grill your fish right there and then. Signs are posted to tell you what your seafood should cost, sold by the weight. It smelled so good!

A lot of shops, souk in the medina in Essaouira is so fun!
