Ledges State Park Boone Iowa
Made a quick visit up to Ledges State Park to see what it was all about. For the 3-4 hours of hiking I managed to take enough footage to put this short little video together for you.
If you're in the area I highly recommend you visit the park. If you're into bird watching, hiking, fishing, nature photography, camping, flowers you'll need to check this place out.
A unique feature of this park is that in some parts of the park you can drive across the small creek in three different places. Also, it's a great place to take the kids to let them run in the water (bring water shoes, rocks can be sharp in some places). Great place to have a picnic too.
They also have a little area where you can see what the prairies used to look like several hundred years ago. I think I would rather be stranded in the Jungle after my experience lol. I did not know that weeds could grow that tall and the bugs could be that many.
I recommend a visit. The picnic tables next to the stream/creek is worth the visit especially if you have kids.
The only negative (if this is a negative) is keep a watchful eye on your kids, vehicles like to speed up quickly before they cross the stream/creek. The road leading down into the little valley (if you wanna call it that) is winding. So just be mindful of that.

High-water flood marks at Ledges State Park, Boone County, Iowa
Thursday, June 15, 2017, 2:07 PM. I had probably seen this pole before at the lower Ledges State Park near Boone, Iowa, with the Des Moines River flood records on it. But if I had, I'd forgotten it. And it had probably been before the two highest floods had happened yet. This pole is in a parking lot by the exit from the Ledges right along the Des Moines River (the entrance is way uphill and to the east, and the single road through the park is one-way) and shows all the floods from 1954 to the most recent, 2008. For height comparison, the girl on the ground is about as tall as a nine-year-old grand-daughter ought to be. The Des Moines River is just beyond the trees in the background.
