Our visit to the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (Dec 2016)
Another of our Favourite places to visit, the LKCNH Museum located in the National University of Singapore was where Ethan's interest in mushroom and fungi first started. Flying lizards, flying frogs and flying snakes also intrigued him greatly and have become some of his favourite animals.

When I first visited the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum at the National University of Singapore in 2017, I told myself that I will return one day to paint the skeleton of the sperm whale. Also, great to have sketched the Leatherback Sea Turtle. What so special about this sea turtle? Katong is Javanese for Leatherback sea turtle, and was probably what gave the name to my beloved area of Singapore when this turtle was fight sighted in 1883 off a beach in Siglap.
Join artist Alvin on his Sketching Singapore series during his journeys around the entire island of Singapore. In every episode, Alvin shares painting tips and drop anecdotes about the location he paints at. It’s a fun way to explore the other side of the tropical isle.

Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, Singapore
The Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum has its origins in the Raffles Museum which was founded in 1849 as a result of an idea mooted by Sir Stamford Raffles, an eminent naturalist. LKCNHM inherited the natural history collection from its predecessor, the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research (RMBR), whose collection stems from the old Raffles Museum that was renamed the National Museum of Singapore. Established on 1 April 2014, LKCNHM is now part of the Faculty of Sciences (FoS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is built on the academic strengths of various faculty and postgraduate researchers of FoS involved in research on various aspects of biodiversity, and the facilities and personnel of the animal and plant collections.
Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum of Singapore using Screen Goo
Though the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum opened its doors to its first visitor in April 2015, its history dates back to the 19th century.
A treasure trove and gatekeeper of the national collection of animals and natural heritage since 1878, it is today a stunning building built from all natural, earth loving materials, nestled within the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) campus.
Kingsmen Exhibits P/L decided that 17 square meters of wall, spread out over four separate areas, would be dedicated to audio visual projections. Treated with Screen Goo Max Contrast coating, each wall screen displays stunning content featuring the grandeur of life on Earth - up close. Paired with Panasonic PT-DW530 and PT-RZ470 projectors, Screen Goo Max Contrast brings out the colors of nature beautifully, giving it the glory it so richly deserves.
