Cleopatra - Full Movie - Ancient Egypt Film
Cleopatra, the famed Egyptian Queen born in 69 B.C., is shown to have been brought by Roman ruler Julius Caesar at age 18. Caesar becomes sexually obsessed by the 18 year old queen, beds her, and eventually has a son by her. However, his Roman followers and his wife are not pleased by the union. In fact, as Caesar has only a daughter by his wife, he had picked Octavian as his successor. The out-of-wedlock son of Cleopatra is seen to be a threat to his future leadership. Thus Brutus and other Roman legislators plot the assassination of Caesar. Caesar's loyal general, Marc Antony, and Octavian then divide up the Roman empire. Antony takes Egypt and soon takes up the affair with Cleopatra. However, Octavian soon launches an attack on Antony and ultimately defeats and mortally wounds him. Rather than permitting herself to be humiliated by Octavian, Cleopatra sends her son away to India and she commits suicide by permitting the deadly asp to bite her.
After the Battle of Pharsalus where Julius Caesar (Rex Harrison) has defeated Pompey, Pompey flees to Egypt, hoping to enlist the support of the young Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII (Richard O'Sullivan) and his sister Cleopatra (Elizabeth Taylor). The Romans hold, and the armies of Mithridates arrive on Egyptian soil. The following day, Caesar passes judgment. He sentences Ptolemy's lord chamberlain to death for arranging an assassination attempt on Cleopatra. Cleopatra is crowned Queen of Egypt. She dreams of ruling the world with Caesar. When their son Caesarion is born, Caesar accepts him publicly, which becomes the talk of Rome and the Senate.
After he is made dictator for life, Caesar sends for Cleopatra. She arrives in Rome in a lavish procession and wins the adulation of the Roman people. The Senate grows increasingly discontented amid rumors that Caesar wishes to be made king, which is anathema to the Romans. On the Ides of March in 44 BC, the Senate is preparing to vote on whether to award Caesar additional powers. They kill Caesar and split up the empire: Lepidus receives Africa, Octavian Spain and Gaul, while Antony will take control of the eastern provinces. However, the rivalry between Octavian and Antony is becoming apparent.
While planning a campaign against Parthia in the east, Antony realizes he needs money and supplies, and cannot get enough from anywhere but Egypt. After refusing several times to leave Egypt, Cleopatra gives in and meets him in Tarsus. Antony becomes drunk during a lavish feast. Cleopatra sneaks away, leaving a slave dressed as her, but Antony discovers the trick and confronts the queen. The war is decided at the naval Battle of Actium on September 2, 31 BC where Octavian's fleet, under the command of Agrippa, defeats the Anthony-Egyptian fleet. Cleopatra assumes he is dead and orders the Egyptian forces home. Antony follows, leaving his fleet leaderless and soon defeated. Several months later, Cleopatra manages to convince Antony to retake command of his troops and fight Octavian's advancing army. However, Antony's soldiers have lost faith in him and abandon him during the night; Rufio (Martin Landau), the last man loyal to Antony, kills himself. Antony tries to goad Octavian into single combat, but is finally forced to flee into the city.
When Antony returns to the palace, Apollodorus, not believing that Antony is worthy of his queen, convinces him that she is dead, whereupon Antony falls on his own sword. Apollodorus then confesses that he misled Antony and assist him to the tomb in which Cleopatra and two servants have taken refuge. Antony dies of his wounds soon after.
Octavian and his army march into Alexandria. Caesarion's dead body is towed in a wagon with the column, and Octavian has taken Caesarion's ring, which was earlier given to him as a parting gift from his mother when she sent him to safety. Octavian seizes the palace and discovers the dead body of Apollodorus, who had poisoned himself. Octavian receives word that Antony is dead and Cleopatra is holed up in a tomb. Octavian sees her and after some verbal sparring offers her his word that he will spare her, return her possessions, and allow her to rule Egypt as a Roman province in return for her agreeing to accompany him to Rome. She observes Caesarion's ring on Octavian's hand and inquires after her son. When Octavian denies any knowledge of his whereabouts and pledges to allow him to rule Egypt in his mother's absence, Cleopatra knows her son is dead and that Octavian's word is without value. She agrees to Octavian's terms, including a pledge not to harm herself, sworn on the life of her dead son. After Octavian departs, she orders her servants in coded language to assist with her suicide.
She sends her servant Charmion to give Octavian a letter. In the letter she asks to be buried with Antony. Octavian realizes that she is going to kill herself and he and his guards burst into Cleopatra's chamber and find her dressed in gold, and dead, along with her servant Eiras,

Greeks Gone West: Meet the Greek brothers from New Jersey who wrote Immortals
Vlassis and Charley Parlapanides are the screenwriters behind the 2011 film Immortals, which tells the story of a mortal hero who enlists the Gods for help against a vicious tyrant. Based loosely on several Greek myths, the film was directed by Tarsem Singh, who also made The Cell and The Fall.
These days they are working on a military thriller with the writer/producer team who made American Sniper.
The brothers have been in the film business for many years, and worked with Universal, Warner Brothers, Columbia and Paramount. They were raised in New Jersey but now live in California.
In their own words…
On art:
El Greco said that art is the depiction of God so we can all see a piece of ourselves. If you succeed as an artist, writer or director to capture a piece of the human condition or a piece of God in a way we can all see it and take away a new understanding , that’s a beautiful thing.
On immigration:
Both sides of our family were Greek immigrants who left Smyrna to go to Patras. Our father’s side of the family used to say that we can be poor immigrants in Greece or poor immigrants in America. Having the mentality of the immigrant, our parents gave great importance on education. They wanted us to become better.
On the idea behind Immortals:
What we really wanted was to write was the script for a film on Greek mythology. Everyone said that this was crazy, because Warner was already preparing the “Clash of the Titans,” Universal had the “God of War,” but we said no, we will write it. We had the idea of someone trying to release the Titans from Mount Tartarus. It was a wonderful, vital idea. The idea was Charlie’s.
On how can Hollywood bring productions to Greece:
What is important when Hollywood is looking locations is the rebate. Immortals was filmed in Canada, where there is a rebate. If a production spends $100 million in Canada, then the Canadian Government gives the studio $30 million back. So for the studio the cost is $70 million while the production value is $100 million. For Canada it’s an influx of money, therefore it is in their interest to attract productions. If Greece does not create such a production rebate, Hollywood will be resistant. And obviously now they do not have the cash, so it’s a very difficult situation.
On the nature of their work:
Part of this work is that you must stay in the game. You cannot let the hits take you down. If you fall down, you must get up. If you get dropped off a cliff, you must hold on with your little finger and find a way to get back up.

Sounion, Greece
Cape Sounion is located 69 kilometers (43 mi) southeast of Athens, at the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula in Greece.
Cape Sounion is noted as the site of ruins of an ancient Greek temple of Poseidon, the god of the sea in classical mythology, who was usually portrayed carrying a trident, the weapon he supposedly used to stir up storms.
The original, Archaic-period temple of Poseidon on the site, was probably destroyed in 480 BC by Persian troops during Xerxes I's invasion of Greece.
The later temple at Sounion, whose columns still stand today, was probably built in ca. 440 BC. This was during the ascendancy of the Athenian statesman Pericles, who also rebuilt the Parthenon in Athens.
According to Greek Mythology, Cape Sounion is the spot where Aegeus, King of Athens, leapt to his death off the cliff, thus giving his name to the Aegean Sea. The story goes that Aegeus, anxiously looking out from Sounion, despaired when he saw a black sail on his son Theseus's ship, returning from Crete. This led him to believe that his son had been killed in his contest with the dreaded Minotaur, a monster that was half man and half bull. In fact, Theseus had successfully overcome and slain the Minotaur, but tragically had simply forgotten about the white sail.

క్లియోపాత్రా జీవిత గాధ || Cleopatra Life Story || interesting Facts
Nice video but Cleopatra didn't speak Arabic since the Arabs would reach Egypt 750 years later. The rest of the video is pretty accurate. Just for the record, Cleopatra was a Ptolemy, and the Ptolemies had always claimed to be Dorians (descendants of the Greek hero Heracles). There is absolutely no connection between today's FYROM (a South Slav country) and ancient Macedon. The myth about the Egyptians being black is an insult to common sense. The Coptic Egyptians, who are direct descendants of the ancient Egyptians, aren't darker than the Arabs. The problem is that today the academic world is swamped with revisionist idiocies that receive too much attention. This is what happens when pseudo-history like the Da Vinci Code and Zeitgeist is allowed to exist: it generates more pseudo-history and it makes it easier for obscure scholars who want their 15 minutes of fame to spew their sensationalist idiocies We have ancient Egyptian mummies: testing shows they were of mixed descent. They were lighter than black and darker than white, which is exactly what today's Copts look like. Testing also shows FYROMians are South Slavs, no different from their neighbors. They have nothing in common with the ancient Macedonians, who had always claimed to be Argive Greeks. One has to wonder: why did FYROMians wait for 2 000 years to tell the world they are Macedonians? Why did they stay silent for so long? The answer is simple: because their pseudo-history was invented in the 1850's. Like I said, the academic world is currently being swamped with revisionist idiocies that are insults to common sense. For some reason, there are many imbeciles who think it's professional to give attention to these new theories. If the ambiguous statements of an ancient historian can be interpreted in such a way as to prove these theories, they automatically become objects of study, regardless of how immense the proof to the contrary is. Just because you found a dark Egyptian portrait or a dark Egyptian statue doesn't automatically mean that the Egyptians were all black. Just because some less evolved Greeks were insulted and called barbarians a few times doesn't automatically mean they weren't Greeks. Like I said: revisionists always cherry pick their evidence and ignore the many other pieces of evidence that disprove their theories. They have no respect for common sense

Cleopatra was born in69B.C and committed suicide in the year 30B.C
.Cleopatra belonged to the Ptolemy dynasty of Egypt and perhaps was one of the most powerful pharaohs of her time.
She was not shy about using her power and always claimed that she was a Goddess Isis herself. Though she ruled Egypt she belonged to Greece as her family migrated many years earlier to Greece.
They were called Macedonian Greeks. Cleopatra was the only queen who learnt to read and write in Egyptian and for the first time during her rule Egyptian was used as an official language.
In addition to learning the language she embraced the ancient culture and their gods. Cleopatra spoke nine languages and had an irresistible charm that attracted men towards her.
Though she was no classic beauty her charm was iconic. Cleopatra was an intellectual and so she could work on equal terms with men and her mastery over so many languages and subjects gave her the upper hand.
She was extremely ambitious and co ruled with her father for four years when she got valuable experience.
When her father died in order to hold on to the throne she married her brother but soon made sure he was forgotten by the people.
Her first step was to erase his images from all the coins. Her initial years were a struggle as there was drought and famine because of the failure of Nile to flood.
Her error in judgment of taking sides cost her throne but soon through manipulation she won it back. Her brother in the meanwhile found a new ally in Julius Ceaser but the intelligent Cleopatra managed to fascinate the Roman emperor and he remained with her till the very end.
Cleopatra is alleged to have killed both her brothers and sisters who were eying the throne.
She is said to have introduced the leap year and day to Ceaser and he implemented it in the Roman calendar. Cleopatra was living with Ceaser when he was murdered and had to make a hasty escape.
Though people spoke behind her back the women imitated everything she did and she became a style icon for women of those days
. After Ceaser she impressed Marc Antony whom she married in Egyptian style. Soon Octavius who called Marc Antony a traitor waged war against them.
Though they knew it was lost cause both fought commanding thir own fleet. Cleopatra when she realized that all was over for her consumed snake poison and killed herself. #theopenbook #Education #Educationalvideos #Studyiq #learn #Cbse #icse #ssc #generalknowledge
