10 Things Not to Do in Puerto Rico
Get more Tips here!
From its towering mountains to its world class beaches and everywhere in between, Puerto Rico is a welcoming tropical destination but there are certainly 10 Things NOT to do there.
1. Don’t Expect Everyone to Speak English
Spanish is the primary language. In resorts you shouldn’t have a problem, but when you’re visiting the cities and towns, you’ll likely run across a lot of people who don’t speak English, so it’s a good idea to learn a few basic Spanish phrases.
2. Don’t Where Flashy Jewelry
There is an element of crime in the area. In highly trafficked tourist areas, the chances of being hit by violent crime rises; that said. Don’t flash your valuables around in public, and make sure to steer clear of tourist areas at night.
3. Don’t Speak Ill of Puerto Rican Statehood
The people and government of Puerto Rico have invested a lot of time, effort, and passion into making the argument that they should be properly folded into the Union. So, if the topic comes up, just say you support statehood or change the subject.
4. Don’t Be Afraid of Puerto Ricans
By and large, the Puerto Rican people have an international reputation for being very warm and open. Don’t get into cars with strangers or anything, but you shouldn’t feel shy about striking up a conversation with a local. They’re cool, and you just might gain a new perspective on things.
5. Don’t Count on Public Transportation
Buses run infrequently. Uber doesn’t exist. Taxis will charge you an arm and a leg. Your best bet for getting around the island is to rent a car. It will be extremely expensive, but the extra control over your travel just might be worth it.
6. Don’t Go Wandering Through El Yunque National Forest
Any trip to Puerto Rico should undoubtedly include a journey to El Yunque, the country’s famous tropical rainforest reserve. No matter how tempting it might be to leave the designated path while you’re there, don’t do it. Tourists get lost in El Yunque all the time and some have even ended up dead. Be careful.
7. Don’t Spend a Lot of Time in ...
The areas of La Perla, Old San Juan, and El Morro are known to have a higher than average rate of drug trafficking as well as the vagrancy and crime that goes along with it. It’s best to just keep on moving.
8. Don’t Worry About Being 21
For any college students thinking about heading somewhere tropical for Spring Break, you should probably know that the drinking age in Puerto Rico is only 18.
9. Don’t Focus on the Big Cities
The island really comes alive when you schedule a few days to explore the country and stay in a small town. Not only are small towns like Guayama considered safe, they’re also gorgeous and peaceful.
10. Don’t Forget About the ‘Lost Coast’
You won’t have to look too far to find a nice stretch of sand. During the summer months, you might think about visiting the island’s western coast. This stretch of sand tends to be less populated and is home to some of the Caribbean’s best diving and surfing.
Where do you want to know what NOT to do in next?

The 2nd Annual Legends Surf Classic Puerto Rico
The 1st ANNUAL LEGEND SURF CLASSIC PUERTO RICO was held Jan. 18-19m 2014. It was a classic event with many of the original surfers that started the sport in Puerto Rico, uniquely organized to give mature surfers & Legends extra divisions to surf and compete. This was one of the first events recognizing the Legends of Surfing with the old timers as the stars. Almost all the contests during the year concentrate on surfers 18-45 years old, we are promoting this special event to surfers 40 to 99 years old.
Over 1,000 visitors from all over Puerto Rico and from Hawaii and California and the East Coast several states were in attendance, with communications from Legends Worldwide who could not make the initial contest, but hope to be in Puerto Rico for the next one. Activities were held at “the Wine Cellar”, “Ode to the Elephants”, “Calypso Cafe” & “Pools Bar . The World Famous “Jorge Machuca” attended the event with his family. They were invited to have their own tent to promote the new Jorge Machuca Tee Shirt line and signed Photographs of Jorge. Machuca is disabled and we wish to continue to help promote his story and his special fundraising activities.
We are busy planning the 2nd Annual Legend Surf Classic Puerto Rico, set for January 16-19, 2015 in Rincon, Puerto Rico. Year-round updates on our Facebook Page: Facebook.com/legendsurfclassicpr

Puerto Rico Economy: $100M Loss As Dozens Of Cruise Ships Cancel Stops In Puerto Rico For 2020-2021
San Juan, Puerto Rico - November 26, 2019 - Puerto Rico Economy: In 2020, dozens of cruise ships will no longer have Puerto Rico as a destination in their planned routes as a result of the poor transparency in the leadership by The Puerto Rico Public-Private Partnerships Authority.
This represents an estimated economic impact of over $100 million. Since early this morning, government officials have expressed their thoughts around the issue, without presenting any real options to stop the exodus.

But Airbnb operators who manage 25-plus listings don’t seem to have a community where they can share the unique challenges of scaling and managing a vacation rental business with multiple units. Enter STR Legends Live Mastermind Retreat, an epic live event planned for this summer in Puerto Rico.

Stay Melo: Carmelo in San Juan's Toughest Slum & the Knicks in Puerto Rico
To most, Puerto Rico is currently an island in economic decline. But to Carmelo Anthony it's a place of family, opportunity and a growing sports culture. With both seasons around the corner, we spent a few days training with a group of Knicks (including rookies Kristaps Porzingis and Jerian Grant) and seeing the stadium that will house Melo's Puerto Rico FC NASL team. We took a trip to La Perla, one of PR's most notorious hoods, to hang out with reggaeton legend Tempo, fresh out of prison after a 12 year bid.
