Crown Bay Cruise Port | Charlotte Amalie | St Thomas | US Virgin Islands (USVI) | Caribbean | 4K
Take a walk around the Crown Bay Cruise Port in Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas, US Virgin Islands.
St Thomas, along with St Croix and St John, form the US Virgin Islands (USVI). These islands are located in the Caribbean Sea. The USVI is a territory of the United States so individuals born here are US Citizens.
The Virgin Islands of St Thomas, St John and St Croix were previously Danish colonies during the 17th and early 18th centuries. The United States then purchased the island from Denmark for $25 million dollars in gold coins.
Tourism, trade and rum production are the primary economic activities of the US Virgin Islands. St Thomas is most noted for its lush vegetation, breathtaking views, and pristine blue waters which attract roughly 2.5 - 3 million tourists a year.
The capital and largest city of St Thomas is Charlotte Amalie with a population of 10,354 (2010, US Census). The city is named after Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel who was married to King Christian V thereby becoming Queen of Denmark. Charlotte Amalie is known for its Danish colonial architecture.
The island has a significant association with pirates. Castles named after the pirates Blackbeard (Edward Teach) and the mythical Bluebeard overlook Charlotte Amalie.
Points of interest in St Thomas include Bluebeard's Hill, Legislature of the Virgin Islands, Fort Christian, Vendors Plaza, Emancipation Garden, Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) Memorial Park, Government House, 99 Steps, Haagensen House, Three Queens Statue, Crown House, Blackbeard's Castle, Estate Catherineberg, Drake's Seat, and Magens Bay. Breathtaking views can be seen from Mountain Top and Charlotte Amalie Overlook.

Government House - Legislature Must Act
Saying that failure to act will kill the landmark agreement to revitalize horseracing in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Governor Mapp has called the 32nd Legislature into Special Session on May 10, 2017. Without amendments to prohibit doping of horses and to consolidate the horseracing commissions, the $30 million private sector investment and all associated economic opportunities remain in jeopardy. The Governor is urging senators to approve these crucial measures so construction can begin on St. Thomas and St. Croix. The project will create many new jobs and afford training and scholarships for young Virgin Islanders.

Protests Merge at St. Thomas Legislature
What began as two causes merged into a swarm of residents taking on issues they had with the government. Protestors crowded the parking lot of the Legislature and filled it with angry voices. But no senators were visible to hear the complaints.

Author name: Gary James
Title: Transfer Day
Page size/soft or hardcover/color or b&w interior/page count/SRP/ISBN:
6x9, soft, b&w, 318 pp, $21.97, 978-1-62212-725-2
The narrative of Transfer Day explores the discovery of ancestral roots on the Island of St. Croix and the history of the American Virgin Islands, formally known as the Danish West Indies.
The Transfer Day literary project is central to a series of projects that formulate a comprehensive study of the historical New World. Learn the role the Virgin Islands and Caribbean region played in the growth and advanced development of the Western world and the African Diaspora.
Apart from the Caribbean Islands as the first port of call for Christopher Columbus' four voyages and the explorer's official mandate of discovery, enslaved Africans on St. Croix and the Virgin Islands in particular gave birth to historical African American figures. These people made exemplary contributions to the respective islands of their birth, as well to the illustrious and colorful history of America and the famous Harlem Renaissance.
Transfer Day crystallizes an important and unheralded piece of history that enjoys a symbiotic connection in context to the broader popular historical account of the development of the Western hemisphere, from the sixteenth century to current political, economic, and social times.
Gary James is a perennial student of history, a business owner and former professional political organizer during the civil rights era. He was member of the New York City staff of the National Welfare Rights Organization (NWRO) from 1966 to 1971. Writing and the creative arts has always been his passion. He is currently a political analyst, consultant, author, and is the chairman of a consulting and management company specializing in project development, from concept to creation.
