Jaya Swara's Performance Legong of Mahabrataat Puri Saren
ウブド中心にある王宮プリ・サレン(Puri Saren)にてジャヤ・スマラ(Jaya Swara)グループによるガムラン演奏と舞踊を観た。1989年にインドネシア芸術大学・高校卒の演奏家達が結成したグループで王宮や寺院の儀式やお祭りで活躍されている。9種類の構成からなっており、王様の家来の踊り、インド古代の抒情詩物語、極楽鳥の踊り、王様自身の異なるお面の踊りなど。特に印象的だったのが女性のクリクリ目玉の踊りで、目力で多様な感情を表現していて美しくも滑稽で興味深かった。ガムラン演奏もその音楽性の高さにビックリ。テンポが目まぐるしく変わるリズム隊の奏でるうねりの上に、幾重にも重なって刻一刻とそのパターンが変わっていくメロディーライン。西洋のオーケストラに匹敵するその音楽的な表現力に脱帽でした。
