Saranda - Albania, Lëkurësi Castle

Lëkurësi Castle is located on a strategic hill point overlooking the town of Saranda, southeast of the town centre. From here one can control the whole town as well as the islands of Ksamil.
The castle of Lëkurës was built in 1537 by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent who had attacked Corfu and needed to control the harbor of Sarandë and the road that connected it with Butrint.
On the ruins of the old castle, tourists can enjoy a meal in the local restaurant which is built in the style and with similar materials to the castle.
Το Κάστρο Λεκουρέσι βρίσκεται σε ένα στρατηγικό λόφο με θέα την πόλη των Αγίων Σαράντα. Από εδώ μπορεί κανείς να ελέγξει όλη την πόλη, καθώς και τα νησιά του Εξαμιλίου.
Το κάστρο Λεκουρέσι χτίστηκε το 1537 από τον Σουλτάνο Σουλεϊμάν τον Μεγαλοπρεπή, τότε που είχε επιτεθεί στην Κέρκυρα και το χρειαζόταν για να ελέγχει το λιμάνι των Άγιων Σαράντα και το δρόμο που τους συνέδεε με Βουθρωτό.
Πάνω στα ερείπια του παλιού κάστρου μπορεί κανείς να απολαύσει ένα γεύμα στο τοπικό εστιατόριο το οποίο είναι χτισμένο στο ίδιο στιλ και παρόμοια υλικά με το κάστρο.

Lekursi castle is one of the most highly recommended places to visit whilst traveling in Saranda. It was recommended to us by our hotel owner who also arranged a taxi ride there. The views at sunset are stunning and you will probably not get a better panaromic view elsewhere in Albania. They have traditional Albanian food and dancing on the top terrace of the castle at night.
If you are in Corfu on holiday I would highly recommend doing a day trip to Saranda as it's a beautiful place with really friendly people. Its also a very budget friendly destination compared to a lot of European countries. The Albanian Riviera will blow you away with its stunning beaches !

Castelul Lekures a fost construit de sultanul Soliman in 1537. Acesta ofera o adevarata perspectiva asupra portului din Saranda si, in interiorul castelului, veti gasi un restaturant popular care este specializat pe diferite mancaruri locale.
Este un sit turistic foarte atragator si magnific pe care merita sa-l viziteze orice turist care ajunge in Albania.
