St Uny Graveyard and Church - Lelant - Cornwall
St Uny's church dates back to the 12th century, originally called St Euny's church, the present building whose features are mainly Norman is thought to be from the 15th century. It is thought that the church was rebuilt at a time when wind blown sand silted up the Hayle estuary and encroached on Lelant, the vicarage itself was buried in sand. A number of ancient Cornish crosses can be found in the graveyard.
In the 14th century, Lelant lost an estimated 40% of it's population with the Black Plague, many were buried in the church grounds.
Many 5th and 6th centuries Celtic missionaries arrived in numbers from Wales and Ireland, settled on the shores of Cornwall, and began converting small local groups of people to Christianity. Lelant church is dedicated to the Irish Saint St Euny or St Uny.
This church is a short walk from me, filmed in the day, I would not want to be there at night - very spooky, you can feel the history - amazing place. Blessings

Hayle is a small town, civil parish and cargo port in west Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. Hayle is situated at the mouth of the Hayle River and is approximately seven miles northeast of Penzance.
Hayle parish was created in 1888 from part of the now defunct Phillack parish, with which it was later combined in 1935, and incorporated part of St Erth in 1937. The modern parish shares boundaries with St Ives to the west, St Erth to the south, Gwinear and Gwithian in the east, and is bounded to the north by the Celtic Sea.
Hayle's position by the sea and its 3 miles of golden sandy beaches allowed it to develop as a holiday destination. Indeed, Hayle still has much holiday accommodation. The sand dunes or Towans are the favoured location for a number of holiday villages and caravan and camping sites. The Gwithian beach near Godrevy is not only picturesque but it is also a favoured area for water-related sports including surfing, windsurfing and body-boarding.
The townscape of Hayle and its historic harbour were part of the initial submission of the Cornwall and West Devon historic mining landscape World Heritage bid. On 13 July 2006 it was announced that the bid had been successful and that the historic mining landscape of Cornwall and West Devon would be added to World Heritage list.
Hayle railway station is close to Foundry Square, at the east end of the viaduct. It is also linked to the harbour area along a footpath that used to be the branch railway line serving the quays. It is served by First Great Western and CrossCountry with local services to Plymouth and services to destinations including London Paddington, Manchester Piccadilly and beyond.
A famous landmark is Godrevy Lighthouse, situated at the eastern end of Hayle Towans, said to have inspired Virginia Woolf's novel To the Lighthouse. The church of St Elwyn was built in 1886-88 to the design of J. D. Sedding. According to Pevsner it is loud outside ... and dull inside. Trevassack Manor is a house of the 17th to 18th century; there is a datestone of 1700. Bodriggy House is of granite, ca. 1710.

Invasion around Hayle estuary - Part One: Hayle to Carrick Gladden
Part One of three. In the summer of 1940 Britain was expecting invasion. The beaches of the Hayle estuary were considered potential landing sites for the German forces. This video looks at why that was so and at what remains of the defences that were built to protect Cornwall from invasion. The journey starts at Lelant overlooking Hayle harbour and winds its way down the estuary to Carrick Gladden.

Stopped in Hayle Cornwall this week a lovely little town. Great walks along long beaches, Godrevy national trust site well worth a visit a small car park charge but worth it for the views.
No dogs on beach 1st may to 30th Sept.

Godrevy beach
This video is of Godrevy beach at Riviere towans, near Phillack, near Hayle, Cornwall, UK. The beach is two miles long and stretches out from near Lelant to Gwithian. It is most famous for it's lighthouse on the island, Godrevy lighthouse, which is half a mile from the mainland. The book 'To the lighthouse' by Virginia Woolf was written about this lighthouse when the author came to Cornwall on her holidays.
