Lenthalls Dam

Lake Lenthall is a lake created by the Lenthalls Dam in Duckinwilla, Fraser Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. It was named after the pioneering family in the district. It was constructed in 1984 on the head waters of the Burrum River which also includes the Isis River, Cherwell River & Gregory Rivers in its 935 square kilometre catchment. As a result of a huge catchment it takes a short time in moderate rain events to fill Lake Lenthall to 100% capacity. The lake has a relatively small surface area of 766 ha, an average depth of 4 to 5 m. Its main purpose is for town water supply for Hervey Bay and surrounding townships within the Fraser Coast Regional Council area.

Wongi State Forest - Waterholes Camping - Lake Lenthall Dam, Maryborough QLD

Wongi is 25km north-west of Maryborough. Head 12.5km towards Childers on the Bruce Highway then turn left at the signpost (the last reliable mobile phone reception is at this turnoff). Drive 10km into the picnic and camping areas along a gravel road.

Rupe Is Fishing | Lenthalls Dam Surface Barra on Teckel Sprinker Frog

Finally ticked a QLD barra off my species list. I've caught plenty in the NT but no cane toad 'mundis since moving here in 2016 (I've only tried one other time and it was the worst trip of my life). This was a one nighter to Lenthalls Dam near Maryborough with 2 good mates. I got one nice barra, this little guy and a weird shaped bass.

The lure is a Teckel Sprinker Frog that was sent to me by Mr. Hideki Maeda from Japan to try. I am so thankful he gifted me this awesome lure.

The fish are not big, but I don't care. Anything on surface is more fun.

Trolling for Bass at Lake Lenthall - SHIMANO AUSTRALIA

Check out Scotty Mitchell and SA angler “Tumby Tom” Tierney at Lake Lenthall where the bass were schooled up through-out the main basin on a thermocline at 3 metres - so they found trolling deep diving minnows with a depth range of 3-4 metres kept their lures in the strike zone longer and accounted for the best fishing!

Lake Lenthall Camping Area - Duckinwilla, Qld

The Lake Lenthal camping area is located on the Lenthal Dam and has wide open areas for camping. There is a maximum of campers of between 18 - 24 at any one time. Call the Ranger Office for up to date camping availability. There are drop toilets picnic tables and a BBQ area a short walk from the campsites. Fires are not permitted here.
