Review: Prague Central Station to Ústí nad Labem on the EC258 International Train, Czechia: June '19
Review of a journey on the EC258 International Train from Praha hlavní nádraží to Ústí nad Labem hlavní nádraží, taken in June 2019.
I've just added a new film to my Railways: Czechia playlist, here: of a review of a journey on the EC258 International Train from Praha hlavní nádraží to Ústí nad Labem hlavní nádraží, taken in June 2019.
Praha hlavní nádraží is the largest railway station in Prague, Czechia, to read about it, click here: .
Ústí nad Labem formerly known by its German name Aussig, is the 7th-most populous city of the Czech Republic. It is the capital of its eponymous region and district. Ústí is situated in a mountainous district at the confluence of the Bílina and Elbe rivers. It is a major industrial center and, besides being an active river port, is an important railway junction. On this journey, I chose to ride in the restaurant car for the entire journey, this is entirely permissible, providing you order food and / or drinks. The Czech loco hauled International Train arrived on time in Prague. I took my seat in the buffet car, where a waiter immediately took my order. The restaurant car is spacious and comfortable, and better than First Class in terms of comfort and service. Seats are in fours (doubles) and twos (singles) with a table. It was also very quiet in the restaurant car for the entire journey.
The EC258 train was heading towards Leipzig in Germany, there was one more stop in Prague at Praha-Holešovice, after this Ústí nad Labem was the next stop, with a scheduled journey time of 1 hour and 9 minutes. After Ústí nad Labem, the train calls at Děčín in Czechia, before entering Germany and calling at Bad Schandau, Dresden Hauptbahnhof, Dresden Neustadt and finally Leipzig Hauptbahnhof. My ticket from Prague to Ústí nad Labem cost 159 Czech Koruna (Kc), which is the equivalent of £5.59 / 6 Euro 24 Cents / US$7.10 - an absolute bargain.
The menu is extensive, and the prices were very reasonable. In terms of food, I started with a beef soup which was excellent, I had two large beers, a main course of steak in sauce with cranberries and dumplings, honey cake for dessert and an espresso. The quality of everything was excellent. The total price for all of my food and drink was only 352 Czech Koruna (Kc), the equivalent of £12.38 / 13 Euro 82 Cents / US$15.73 - an absolute bargain.
The journey includes footage of what I have described above as well as great scenery of suburban Prague, the Czech countryside, Vltava River and Elbe River. My tip is to sit on the right side of this train for the best views if travelling towards Germany.
This was an extremely positive experience, and I would definitely recommend taking this journey.
