A Visit To The Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve- Todd Vendituoli- LIFE in Eleuthera 3-15-17
Tons of emails and paperwork started the beginning of the day but later we decided to take a trip to the Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve to have a look around. It's always an interesting trip with plenty to see. I highly recommend it for visitors to Eleuthera or people that live here and appreciate nature.
After that we got in a shortish beach walk as the wind is still blowing making for hard walking.

Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve, Eleuthera, Bahamas
Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve, Eleuthera, Bahamas
Located in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera, the Preserve is operated by the Bahamas National Trust and funded by the Leon Levy Foundation. It was developed by Shelby White, trustee of the Foundation, in honour of her late husband, Leon Levy. The Preserve will be a living part of Bahamian history. It is the first national park on the island of Eleuthera. It is an environmental educational centre as well as a facility for the propagation of native plants and trees.
The Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve is the fulfillment of the vision of longtime residents Leon Levy and Shelby White, who loved the natural environment and way of life on Eleuthera. After Leon Levy’s death in 2003, Shelby White wanted to celebrate her husband’s devotion to the island while contributing to a better future for all Eleutherans.
Working with the Bahamas National Trust, she helped establish a plant preserve where Bahamians and visitors can now walk miles of trails through the native habitat, and view the beautiful orchids, the food and medicinal plants, and the hardwood trees that played an important role in the history of the island.
This 25 acre Preserve has been designed as a research centre for traditional bush medicine; a facility for the propagation of indigenous plants and trees; and an educational centre focusing on the importance of native vegetation to the biodiversity of The Bahamas.

The Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve | Sailboat Story 57
During our last couple days at Governor's Harbour, we check out the Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve.
I'll admit, that Tambi was far more excited about walking through the woods and looking at a bunch of plants than I was. When we arrived, and I had a chance to get a better understanding of the park, it's quality, and it's purpose, I began to get a bit more interested. This plant park is actually quite nice!
It's very clean, very well run, and the experience was educating and relaxing. I enjoyed my time walking through the bush and looking at plants after all.
For more information on the Leon Levy Preserve, go here:
After the park, Keith and the Sandflea crew part ways, as we change gears and prepare to leave Governor's Harbour for Alabaster Bay. We need to get water, turn the boat back into a sailboat, instead of a floating apartment, and we also have to be sure that our immigration is up-to-date.
A quick trip to the immigration office extends our time once again, and we are free to roam around the islands once more - at least for another 45 days.
Thanks for watching!!

Our transition from working, owning a home and trying to enjoy life to living our dream of sailing the world. We moved on board our sailboat 1968 Tartan 34C in 2016 and set sail shortly afterwards. We began our trip down the ICW to the Bahamas where we plan on island hopping and see where the wind takes us.
Fashion Show at The Leon Levy Preserve-Eleuthera, Bahamas
Recently the Leon Levy Preserve hosted a Winter Residents Reception and as part of the event a Fashion show was held. Verda Gardiner designed and made all the dresses and the girls and women did a wonderful job showing off the creations for all to see.

Meet The Leon Levy Team-Eleuthera, Bahamas
It's always been my assumption that people connect with people so in that vein I thought it would be nice for you to meet some of the Leon Levy Team. The people below and in the video are just part of what make the Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve such a favorite for locals as well as visitors to Eleuthera. The care and variety of the plants and native birds, animals and more make it a place that you can visit many times and never see the same things twice. Also when you speak with them you can genuinely feel the love they share for what they do and the pride that they have in the Preserve.

Why Go To Bahamas
The roughly 700 islands that make up the Bahamas lure millions of visitors to their white-washed shores, duty-free shops, fishing and scuba diving excursions and luxurious accommodations each year. Families that flock here tend to indulge in the diversions of Atlantis, Paradise Island and other mega resorts, but this diverse island chain also offers a range of activities away from the hotel zone. Nature enthusiasts can explore pristine protected areas like the Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve (on Eleuthera) and Lucayan National Park (on Grand Bahama Island) or take it easy at one of the country's many beaches or private islands. Bargain hunters, meanwhile, can patrol the marketplaces in Nassau (the country's capital), in Freeport and on Paradise Island for the best duty-free deals. And for history buffs, ruins and artifacts from the colonial era and indigenous peoples like the Lucayan and Arawak Indians can be found on San Salvador, Cat Island and other Bahamian islands. It's no wonder why the Bahamas has become a popular vacation destination.
I'm Sorry- Todd Vendituoli- LIFE in Eleuthera 3-14-17
The weather changed and got rougher seas and winds today which I found out was due to the storm that is hitting the north with snow. The moisture is actually being sucked from the Gulf of Mexico and the Bahamas to fuel it.
Otherwise it was a good productive day with a usual beachwalk and a bunch of other business taken care of. Oh and I'm sorry about fueling the storm with moisture and all the snow and wind up north but- slaps head- I could have been in the Bahamas.

Breakfast At Pammy's-Todd Vendituoli-LIFE in Eleuthera #527
Saturday and we got 10 pounds of Stone crabs AKA biters and went to Pammy's in Governors Harbour for breakfast with Dan who watches this channel. We had wanted to get in some drone footage but that wasn't to be with clouds and wind. Harbour Island Sunday? We'll see.
