Skiing in Le Praz courchevel Part 1

COURCHEVEL - SKI RESORT FRANCE (TOUGHEST AND LONGEST VALLEY)
Courchevel is at one end of the world’s largest lift-linked ski area, the Trois Vallées, which has 600km of pistes and 166 lifts. With many north-facing slopes, the snow in the Courchevel valley is usually some of the best in the whole ski area, and there’s terrain to suit everyone from beginner to expert.
The local slopes comprise 150km of runs, of which 23 are green, 35 blue, 32 red and 10 black. There are also free lifts for beginners at most of the resort villages. The whole Trois Vallées lift system has lots of fast gondolas and chairlifts, for speeding around the huge area, which while catering for all standards is particularly good for mileage-hungry intermediates.
Courchevel’s six distinctly separate resort villages are linked by lifts, pistes and a road which winds its way up through Saint Bon, Courchevel Le Praz and Courchevel Moriond to the highest base, simply known as Courchevel. On the way it bypasses roads leading to Courchevel Village and Courchevel La Tania. All villages are also linked by an efficient and frequent free bus service.
Courchevel Le Praz is an old, rustic village at heart. The main landmark is the ski jumping hill, built for the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics and still used today, in summer as well as winter. A gondola and a fast chairlift ascend from here to different parts of the slopes. The base area has been remodelled for 2019/20, with a new 10 person gondola replacing the old four-seater, and a two-level 500-place underground car park. The new lift connects Le Praz to Courchevel 1850 in under six minutes.
Next in altitude comes Courchevel La Tania, a good-value, family-friendly base from which to explore the slopes of its higher Trois Vallées neighbours. The resort was built for the 1992 Winter Olympics, and at 1,400m is about the lowest purpose-built French resort there is. Its wood-clad buildings sit comfortably in a pretty woodland setting – quite a contrast to the bleakness of many higher-altitude French ski stations.
Courchevel Village, set off the main road, is a quiet backwater, with a mixture of individual chalets and bigger block-like buildings and few facilities. It’s linked via the fast 10-seater Grangettes gondola or a fast chairlift to Courchevel 1850, and blue runs lead back into the village.
Although Courchevel Moriond is on the main road, the traffic isn’t intrusive and the village centre around the main lift base (a gondola reached by an escalator) has been attractively developed, and is lined with varied shops, restaurants and bars. Opposite the lift another much longer three-stage covered escalator serves a big area of chalets lower down the hill. There is a huge watersports centre, Aquamotion, just below here and a toboggan run, “Moriond Racing”. A new chairlift and blue run link this area, which includes a new hotel, L’Ecrin Blanc, to Courchevel 1850 for winter 2019/20.
The highest village, Courchevel – aka 1850 – is also by far the biggest, spreading a good way up the hillsides. It’s the prestige place to stay, where the rich Russians and Parisians head to be seen and to flash their cash. It's also the main lift hub with gondolas from the centre heading up in three different directions, and mainly easy pistes back down.

Courchevel is a French Alps ski resort. It is a part of Les Trois Vallées, the largest linked ski areas in the world. Courchevel also refers to the towns of Courchevel 1300 (Le Praz), Courchevel 1550, Courchevel 1650 (Moriond), and Courchevel 1850, which are named for their altitudes in metres. They are situated in the commune of Saint-Bon-Tarentaise. The resort centre of Courchevel is at 1,747 metres (5,732 ft). The somewhat misleading name Courchevel 1850 was chosen for marketing reasons to compete with arch rival Val d'Isère. It is the Jardin Alpin area of Courchevel 1850 (not the centre) which is actually located at 1,850 metres (6,070 ft).
Courchevel is in the commune of Courchevel in the Tarentaise Valley, Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The original resort was planned during World War II with a study in 1942 by the Vichy regime and in a doctorate by the town planner Laurent Chappis. Chappis was a natural choice to direct the development of the resort in the immediate post war years. Courchevel 1850 was significant, as it was the first resort in France to be constructed from scratch, rather than based around an existing village.
Within the Tarentaise Valley you find the biggest concentration of world-class ski resorts in the world. Most well known neighbour systems are Paradiski (Les Arcs, La Plagne) and Espace Killy (Val d'Isère and Tignes). A weekly lift ticket in Courchevel/Les Trois Vallées gives you a choice to ski one day in each of the other two systems mentioned. There were once plans to interlink all systems and resorts to create the - by far - largest ski area in the world. However that vision was ended with the creation of the Vanoise National Park.
The Courchevel valley also includes the town of La Tania, built as competitors accommodation for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville. Le Praz hosted the Olympic ski jumping and Nordic combined competitions for those games took place at Tremplin du Praz in Le Praz. There was a ski Jump in Courchevel 1850 on the snowfront however it was removed recently due to safety precautions.
Courchevel is the most western resort of the Three Valleys, the biggest connected ski area in the world. It is renowned for its excellent lift system which is virtually queue free, even at the busiest of times. Although Courchevel consists of four satellite villages — Courchevel Le Praz, Courchevel 1550, Courchevel 1650 and Courchevel 1850 — it is most famous for its highest resort, the exclusive village of Courchevel 1850. Sometimes referred to as St. Tropez of winter sports, it attracts almost only a select clientele of VIPs, wealthy people and royal families
Courchevel is also known for its fine dining. It's the ski resort with the most Michelin starred restaurants. A total of seven restaurants share 11 Michelin stars, including four restaurants that have been awarded two Michelin stars, including Le Chabichou. It also hosts a variety of luxury shops including Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Valentino, Loro Piana, Prada, Cartier, Fendi, Dior and Chanel.
The large majority of Courchevel's visitors are of Russian nationality (source Courchevel Tourist Agency), in fact the resort is known for the wealthy Russian elite who flock to the resort during New Year and Russian Orthodox Christmas which is celebrated on 7th January, two weeks later than in Western Europe. Because of this, Courchevel's name has become synonymous with winter playground of the super rich in Russia. As a result, the first two weeks of January are high season weeks in Courchevel.
Courchevel is known to be an expensive resort. One of the reasons for this are the high prices of residential and commercial property. Courchevel has one of the largest bases for ski instructors and other seasonal workers due to the size of the three valleys area. Courchevel's couloirs are renowned as some of the most difficult black runs in the world.
( Courchevel - France ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Courchevel . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Courchevel - France

Courchevel 1850 to Le Praz on the Brigues red run
The Wrights follow the Chaters down Brigues in fresh powder to get back home rather than use the lift. Apparently I fell over once or twice!!
Even though I was completely exhausted at the end, it was absolutely the best time ever.
