Lhasa, Tibet - Lhasa is one of the most important cities in Tibet, and a home of Tibetan food and culture. In this video we’re going on an ultimate Tibetan street food tour of Lhasa, and additionally we’ll visit the Potala Palace and some of the most significant cultural sights in the city. Let’s start eating Tibetan food! #Lhasa #Tibet #TibetanFood #streetfood
Potala Palace - To begin the morning we started off visiting the Potala Palace, a fortress dzong, with tombs, chapels, and assembly halls, and once the seat of the Dalai Lama. Today it’s still used as a monastery, and a school for Tibetan Buddhist monks. The magnitude will blow you away.
Tibetan Tea House - One of the best parts of culture in Lhasa is the tea house culture. There are big teahouses all over the city, and local Tibetans congregate to drink tea, eat Tibetan food and socialize. I tried some yak noodles, both yak and vegetarian momos, and both sweet and salted tea. Tibetan yak noodles - 6 RMB ($0.84) per bowl
Tibetan Teahouse #2 - Located just off Barkhor Street, on this Tibetan street food tour, we then went to another teahouse, this one probably the largest and most well known local spots in Lhasa. The ambiance was incredible, so vibrant and so energetic. Since I had just had yak noodles, we chose to try some friend noodles and tea, and soak in the Tibetan culture.
Dzomo Cheese - Hybrid between yak and cow - Next we tried some dzomo cheese on the streets of Lhasa, very good and slightly animaly.
Laping noodles - Price - 5 RMB ($0.70) per bowl - One of my favorite of all Tibetan street foods is laping, a type of noodle, sliced off, then mixed with chili oil and spices. It’s the perfect light and flavorful street food snack.
Legendary Yak Momos - Price - 1 RMB ($0.14) per piece - On the corner, just outside the Barkhor Street circle, is a famous yak momos hole in the wall restaurant. The momos were hot and fresh, made right before you order them, and they were some of the best yak momos I’ve ever had.
Cheese Fungus Soup - 6 RMB ($0.84) per bowl - Dolma mentioned that this Tibetan cheese fungus soup is rare to find nowadays and during this season, so we were lucky to find it. It ate like a porridge and was hearty and filling.
Jokhang Temple - Barkhor Street - One of the most important places in Tibetan Buddhism and in Lhasa is Jokhang Temple, and people often walk 3 circles around the temple each morning and evening.
Tibetan Food Dinner - Finally for dinner, it wasn’t really street food, but it was a local Tibetan style dinner where we tried a number of Tibetan dishes. My favorite was the pickled preserved radish stir fried with yak meat.
It was an amazing day in Lhasa, Tibet, lots of delicious Tibetan food, and a chance to learn a lot about Tibetan culture.
Thank you to Travel China & Tibet ( they sponsored my trip to Tibet, and they did an amazing job to cater to the exact things I wanted to do. Highly recommended when you visit Tibet.

4,500 Meter VILLAGE FOOD - Heavenly Yamdrok Lake, Tibet!
????Street Food in Tibet - Ultimate Tibetan Food Tour:
????T-shirts and caps:
Thank you to for hosting me on my trip to Tibet!
High Altitude Tibetan Food - Today we drove from Lhasa to Yamdrok Lake, where we had the honor to eat at a local family home. At 4,500 meters in elevation, there’s not a lot of plants that grow, and so our meal consisted of Tibetan barley, yak meat, a few green onions, and a radish soup. It was a hearty and warming meal, full of love, and a pleasure to learn more about Tibetan culture. #Tibet #YamdrokLake #streetfood #villagefood
Yamdrok Lake, Tibet - First we drove to Yamdrok Lake, and Kambala Pass (4,990 m (16,371 ft) for the viewpoint. The view of Yamdrok Lake for the first time was breathtaking. It’s a sacred lake in Tibet, and the colors of the lake look different depending on season, time of day, or even where you see the lake from. The actual bottom of the lake, on the shore is more like 4,500 Meters in Elevation.
High Elevation Tibetan Food - Tsampa (roasted barley) is the staple and main food of the Tibetan diet. It’s nutritious, and grows at a very high elevation. For lunch we had butter tea, barley dumplings with yak meat, radish soup with yak meat, and a type of momo bread which was formed into cone shapes, and fried and steamed in an iron griddle pan. The entire meal was simple, but delicious and very hearty and warming - mainly carbs, and yak. The entire village and setting next to Yamdrok Lake made it even more spectacular.
Karola Glacier View - Finally to end this day in Tibet, we continued to Karola Glacier, passing a section that was almost 5,200 meters in elevation. Highest elevation I’ve been to, and the entire drive was unbelievably beautiful.
An amazing day, great people, delicious food, and heavenly scenery of Yamdrok Lake.
Thank you to Travel China & Tibet ( they sponsored my trip to Tibet, and they did an amazing job to cater to the exact things I wanted to do. Highly recommended when you visit Tibet.

Tibet, Visit to Lhasa 1992
Lhasa in 1992 was totally different from Lhasa today. There was practically no tourism, there was only one hotel. We had a student as guide who spoke French. We were also totally unprepared for the high altitude. The images shown in this video do however show how magnificent the place was in those pre tourist days...

Tibet Tour Plan - How to Get to Tibet by Train, Flight or Overland
contact us : contact@tibettravel.org
Nowadays, traveling to Tibet is quite simple.
So, firstly you need to get to mainland China or Nepal,
Then choose flight, Tibet train or overland Road Trip to reach Lhasa, the capital of Tibet.
Believe me, each means has its own advantage and disadvantage.
Now, let’s start talking about traveling from mainland China, from cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, etc. to Tibet.
Basically, you may choose to Take a Tibet train or a flight or reach Tibet by overland road trip.
Ok, let’s start with Tibet train.
As the world’s highest railway, Tibet train is by far the most popular means to enter Tibet.
Cost-effective, and highly-efficient, it gives you ample time for gradual acclimatization while aboard the train.
For railfans, it's a must do before arriving in Tibet.
And you can easily board the Tibet train from major provincial cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xi’an, Xining, etc. to Tibet.
Highly recommended!
If you have a tight schedule, then taking a flight to Tibet would be your best choice.
Non-stop flights to Lhasa can be found in cities like Chengdu, Chongqing, and Xi’an and Xining and Shangri-La and Kunming.
You may also take direct flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, to Lhasa, but with one or two stops in other cities.
Apart from Tibet Train and flight, the adventurous overland road trip to Tibet works best for the real explorers.
The most famous one is Sichuan-Tibet Highway via G318 national highway.
The epic road trip, known for its treacherous mountain roads and second-to-none scenery, would be a fantasy for road trip lovers.
Other than that, traveling from Xining to Lhasa or Kashgar to Lhasa offers entirely different challenge to photographers and the thrill seekers.
Got it? Fantastic!
Now, let's shift our attention to Tibet's friendly neighbor, Nepal.
The proximity of Nepal to Tibet makes Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, the closest gateway city to Tibet.
For international tourists, it's extremely popular to either take a flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa or enjoy the classic Kathmandu to Lhasa overland trip to Tibet.
The non-stop flight only takes around 1h30min to reach Lhasa.
Nowadays, flights , run by Sichuan Airline and Air China, are almost available on a daily basis.
Pretty convenient, isn't it!
For travel experts, the epic overland tour from Kathmandu to Lhasa via Gyirong Port, current Sino-Nepal border, is definitely their top choice.
And there are good reasons.
The classic travel route abounds with epic vista of Himalayan peaks, holy Buddhist monasteries and incredible alpine lakes and unlimited chances to meet local Tibetans and explore their exotic life.
So having said so much,
Hopefully, now you know your favorite way to get to Tibet.
Thanks for watching.

Yak Heads and The Cure for Cancer in Kangding: Tibet in China 1
The Tibetan culture is unique and should not be missed, however in order to visit Tibet now you need a special permit and you have to take a tour. We decided to head to western Sichuan, where the beautiful landscape is scattered with authentic Tibetan villages. The area is known as the Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and it's towns are actually more Tibetan than the capital of Tibet, Lhasa.
Our first stop was Kangding, the 'gateway to Tibet', and a really cool town to hangout in. We take a short hike up Paoma mountain, which offers some memorable views. We also check out Kangding market, including Yak bridge where butchered yaks are aplenty. Finally, we find the parasitic fungus that's said to be able to cure cancer.
Tibet is full of intriguing things like this. Please subscribe for more!
This is part 1 of 3 of Tibet in China, which gives you an alternate way to experience Tibet, without the hassle of a permit, and without having to take a tour. Watch part 2 here:
