Westport, CT Town Video Tour
Located along the Long Island Sound and where it meets the Saugatuck River, Westport is an upscale suburban community in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Just 45 miles northeast of New York City, the town has a population of over 27,000 residents. Many people choose Westport as their home for its easy commute, excellent schools and plentiful leisure and cultural activities. Sophisticated and picturesque it has a fabulous downtown area with great shops, art galleries and restaurants. Its sandy beaches, scenic shorelines and inland woods impress at every turn. Waterfront properties grace the coastline while magnificent estates, country houses and contemporaries can be found throughout the area. With is breathtaking landscape, abundant amenities and convenient commutes to metropolitan centers, Westport attracts families, executives and people from the creative arts. In the summertime the Levitt Pavilion features a variety of family concerts and performances & The Westport Country Playhouse hosts professional touring companies. Music and art exhibits are held throughout the year.
An exceptional public school system is the focus of this strong community. It’s broad range of extracurricular activities include multiple state champion sports teams, high quality theater productions and a world class music department whose crowning achievement is the annual candlelight concert. The schools have a rich curriculum and outstanding program of professional development for teachers and administrators. So much so that The Wall Street Journal has identified Staples as one of the best high schools in the nation. All five town elementary schools are ranked in the top ten in the state according to Niche.
Westport's Compo Beach was the site of the British invasion of Danbury known as Trion's Raid on April 25, 1777. Not far from Compo Beach stands the Minuteman Statue. The statue was built facing away from the beach because it commemorates the way the minutemen hid and waited until they could attack the large British army from behind. Compo Beach is the gem of Westport and the largest town beach with a boardwalk, pavilion, picnic area, playground, Skate Park and a host of sports fields. Other Westport beaches include Old Mill, Burying Hill, offshore Cockenoe Island and the 300 acre Sherwood Island State Park. Longshore Club Park is an 18 hole golf course with well-manicured fairways. The course is operated by the Town of Westport and open to Westport residents and their guests. There are three swimming pools at Longshore, a marina, yacht basin, a skating rink and tennis courts. Longshore is also the home of The Longshore Sailing School, one of the oldest and most renowned sailing programs in the country. In addition, Westport has two private clubs, Birchwood Country Club and The Hunt Club. Commuter services include shuttles to and from Saugatuck and Greens Farms rails stations for Westport residents as well as easy access to Interstate 95 and The Merritt Parkway. The Daybreakers - “Umoja” at the Levitt Pavilion Dayton
On August 18, 2018 Kyle Dillingham and Horseshoe Road collaborated with kids at Daybreak Dayton to learn about songwriting, answer questions about the music industry, and ultimately write and record a song as part of the Levitt Pavilion Dayton's education outreach! The song they wrote is title Umoja. Umoja is the first principle of Kwanzaa and means Unity.
The song was such a success they were invited to open that night for Sol Driven Train who was performing on the Levitt stage. Sol Driven Train joined in and this is the resulting collaboration.

Live! Folklife Concert: Marc Berger and RIDE (Bird On The Wing)
Marc Berger’s life has been about pursuing twin passions: creating & recording his American roots songs, and exploring remote areas of the desert & mountain West. With Ride, Marc captures the vastness and romance of the West while exploring its deep roots in the American psyche. “Marc Berger & Ride bring a well choreographed mix of deep country folk songs with touches of bluegrass, roots, Americana, a little spicy cajun, and even a little indie with an effects laced lead acoustic guitar” –Steven Ha/The Living Room, NYC.

Westport Arts Center Eyes New Location
Watch more and discuss:
The Westport Arts Center is looking to expand and this property here on Jesup Green could soon be it's new home.
We are running out of space, said the Executive Director Peter Van Heerden, so we are expanding beyond our geographic footprint. We can only fit 12 people in our classroom and often we over subscribe. So, we have a waiting list for that, he said.
Right now, you can find the Westport Arts Center on Riverside Avenue: A beautiful spot located on the water. But, this 3500 square foot space is rented, and the Executive Director Peter Van Heerden tells me the price to rent is a financial burden.
Plus, the programs and attractions offered by this artist hot spot are growing. The 2014 -2015 seasonal program recently being announced and it includes several new educational programs for all ages.
The project, as currently outlined, would include two galleries, an auditorium, studio space a gift shop and a caf. This expansion would come at the same time the Library, also located near Jesup Green, is being transformed.
You know the Library is expanding, the Levitt Pavilion has beautifully expanded, so we are looking at being apart of that and creating a cultural campus, said Van Heerden.
Now the Arts Center has said the cost is estimated at $3 million, all to be raised through private funds. But, on a positive note - much of that money has already been raised.
