Historic Lewes, Delaware
A brief history of the town of Lewes, told through the experiences of the bay and river pilots of the community whose contributions continue to play a critical role in Delaware's - and our nation's - maritime commerce. From an early 17th century Dutch settlement through today's heritage and eco-tourism driven economy, nearly 400 years of history vividly comes to life in this short documentary.

Why Do Libraries Still Matter in Delaware?
It is Delaware Library Legislative Day, where lawmakers are thanked for supporting libraries. It made us ask, why do libraries still matter?
Bonnie Blyelliott from the Rehoboth Beach Library says, Libraries are still relevant because we keep up with the times.
She says the number of citizens using their services has not declined over the years because they can not only rent books, but they can download e-books, audio books, and rent movies.
It saves people in our area plenty of money.
Blyelliott said, You know if you go to Redbox, you're gonna have to pay. You can come in here to rent out a movie FOR FREE!!! I mean there's a value here.
Governor John Carney says he sees the value in libraries and is working to provide them with financial help.
Carney said, One of our challenges, frankly, in our budget, is to provide the support that libraries need to be that strong asset in each community across our state.
In a time where almost everyone has internet access, the library is the one place where those who don't have it can still connect online, providing an important social service to the community.
Everyday, you see somebody coming in looking for a job. We provide services, where if you went somewhere else, you wouldn't always be able to get in, Blyelliott said.
Even though today's library gives modern people everything they need, some say they just want the quiet and serenity of a good read.
On resident from Lewes said, Many people still like to read books, despite all the new technology, and many people appreciate having different forms of media, right here at their hands, right at their convenience.
The Rehoboth Beach Library holds special programs all year long.
On April 29th, they will hold their annual Japanese tea house, where people can learn about the culture of Japan.

'Drag 101' program no longer being held at Delaware District Library
DELAWARE, Ohio (WCMH) -- A program titled 'Drag 101' will no longer be held at the Delaware County District Library.
The program, intended for teens, was to be one of 400 summer programs held at the library.
Drag performer Selena T. West was scheduled to teach the program. West said there was a threat made against those participating in the program.
When you say and demonize gay people, or drag queens or trans individuals under the guise of being an advocate for children, then you're letting people know, or you're telling people that we are a danger to children, said West. So, those people, some of them who aren't probably all there in the head, might think that they need to protect children from us, because you've demonized gay people, drag queens, and trans individuals.
West said that while those organizing opposition to the program may not condone the threat, they created a condition where it was inevitable.
You're sending a message that we are not worthy of love, we are not worthy of being equal to you. We don't deserve rights. And when you're saying that we shouldn't be around children, them yeah, someone is going to call and make a threat because they think that they are protecting children, said West.
The program will now be hosted at Secret Identity Comics in Delaware from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on June 5.

Supporting Public Libraries, Building Stronger Communities - Governor's Weekly Message
In his weekly message, filmed at the Lewes Public Library, Governor Markell discusses the importance of continued investments in Delaware’s libraries.
“This past week, we celebrated the groundbreaking for what will be the state’s 14th library opening or expansion since 2009, bringing our state’s investment in library construction to nearly thirty million dollars over the past seven years,” said Governor Markell. “By supporting public libraries, we can help give everyone the resources and information they need to increase their knowledge, find new economic opportunities, and build stronger bonds within their communities.”
Every week, the Governor’s office releases a new Weekly Message in video, audio, and transcript form.
Delaware Christian Resource Center Opening Soon!
Our mission statement identifies three core components in regards to our program. All programs are Positive, Clean, and Structured. These components are also practiced with a foundation consisting of Christian Faith and Ethical Values.
The DCRC will also be the proud home of the 'Agape Christian Preparatory School', which is a tuition based home private school, based using the Alpha Omega Publications Curriculum. This school offers an exquisite intimate appeal to academic studies with a ratio of 1/12 students. Resources will be at their fingertips as the Delaware City Library is right on the premises.
Positive Reinforcement is prevalent in our program through the countless events and activities our center offers geared towards the whole family. Some of the events hosted by DCRC include, but are not limited to; vendor expos, community yard sales, youth summits, holiday socials, Christian singles' events, business networking events, charitable events, and outdoor family tent events. Some activities include; business lunchtime bible study, toddler story time, parents' night out, regular worship opportunities, senior game days, and physical exercise and sports happenings.
In an effort to offer a clean and good spirited environment, we strongly enforce our no alcohol and drug free policy at all events hosted by DCE in the DCRC. We also strongly discourage the use of profanity or obscene language, any justification of hate, anti-religion, or any form of violence.
The consistency and structure of our scheduled events and happenings will benefit the community by offering an outreach program that is designed to build social skills, team building, and family structure. We will also provide a unique platform of services that not only benefits clients in a spiritual manner but focuses on personal, financial, and career development.
Personal development is supported by the many services DCRC will offer. A licensed biblical counselor will be onsite to offer solo and group counseling. Counseling services are open to the entire community and are obtainable on a sliding fee scale while insurance and state medicaid services are not currently accepted. Mentoring services are offered to both youth and adults. Mentors act as, delegators, role models, cheerleaders, policy enforcers, advocates, and friends. After school tutoring is a service offered to students on all grade levels. Companion services are also offered for senior citizens looking a friend, personal caretaker, or for someone to run personal errands on their behalf. Tutoring is affordable and all of the tutors are certified professionals with a focus on academic development.
Financial development is supported by offering financial training, household budget counseling, and seasonal tax preparation. Our Entrepreneurial Center will help to provide a stepping stone to those looking to create their own small businesses or are looking for advice and support while expanding their existing entity. The Entrepreneurial Center is housed with a copier and printer, TV, screen projector, Internet accessible PC's, and shared desk space which is available on a case by case basis. Membership plans are available for small businesses and entrepreneurs who plan to use the space on a consistent basis or for a predetermined amount of time.
Career Services are also available for those looking to build their resume, learn interviewing techniques, and obtain software training. One-on-one resume building meetings as well as group resume training classes will be available. These classes will include role play to intensify interview skills and increase knowledge in the human resource and hiring process, as well as interview etiquette reinforcement.
In addition to the services and trainings DCRC has already mentioned, several other classes will also be held on a consistent basis within the program. Some of the classes include, but are not limited to; self-defense and exercise classes, Lamaze classes for expectant mothers, healing classes, bible trainings, modeling and self-development classes, and even music and dance lessons.
We are also in the process of developing a sports program for the youth.
