Liberian National Museum in Monrovia, Liberia
The National Museum of Liberia is a national museum in Monrovia, Liberia. Initially housed in the First Executive Mansion on Ashmun Street of the city which is now used as a library, it was established by an Act of the National Legislature in 1958 under the administration of Liberia's 18th President, Dr William V.S. Tubman. Partly funded by UNESCO, in coordination with the Department of Public instructions (what is now the Liberian Ministry of Education), its primary goal was to obtain, preserve and display cultural artefacts and other historical items which depict the country's heritage.
The museum is classified in three tiers, where on the ground floor there is a histographical gallery containing presidential papers, private documents and memoirs of past important executives of the Liberian government and photographs and cartographical resources related to its culture. On display is the nation's first flag dating back to August 1847. There are also other items ranging from postage stamps to an editorial page of Liberia's daily newspaper, the Liberia Herald. Other items include traditional Liberian household furniture and utensils, and there is a craft shop run by the African Arts & Crafts Inc.
On the next floor is the Ethnographical Gallery and on the top floor the contemporary arts gallery which illustrates Liberian artistic works many of which are product of a contract between the museum and art institutions and art colleges throughout the country where artists are commissioned to produce for the museum purposes.
Other museum facilities include a portable video system, editing and archival materials, cassette recordings and slides of visual and oral arts many of which offer an insight into Liberian cultures such as dance and the use of masks in the country.

LIBERIA | Welcome to Monrovia
A city of hard-working people. I wish them all the best for their Bright Future!

On the Atlantic coast in the capital of Monrovia is the National Museum of Liberia with its exhibitions on national culture and history. Around Monrovia, there are beaches with palm trees, such as Silver and CeCe. Along the coast are the harbor of Buchanan and the harbor of Roberts, known for its powerful surf.
Rain in Liberia:
In Liberia, the climate is tropical, hot and humid throughout the year, with the rainy season from May to October due to the African monsoon and quite often rains of other months except for a short dry season lasts from December to February. This is more pronounced in the north. In the southern zone, rains have a relative gap from the middle of July to the end of August. Along the coast of precipitation is more than 3000 mm per year. In the northern part of the coast, in the capital of Monrovia, precipitation has even reached 5.1 meters (200 inches) per year, with a peak in June and July, when almost one meter (3.3 feet) rainfalls month after month, and the parent disappears August. Here the rains in April and November are plentiful.
The capital of Liberia in July looks almost so much rain (1150 mm). What can we have for a whole year in Pakistan? Honestly, I've never seen so much rain in my life. This is really too much ... but In any case, its nature ... nature is always Great.
On the other hand; Lack of access to a supply of freshwater to the city estimated that West Point relies on pits for 95% of its water needs. Residents know that well water is not suitable for drinking. But for many, the cost of drinking water has no choice.
Liberia, a lush, green, friendly and energetic country, offers everything from beautiful surf shops and merchandise to hard local designers, to days in a cozy hammock on the edge of the rainforest and singing tropical birds.
Ebola:
2014-2016 Ebola Outbreak in West Africa
The first cases were considered as malaria, a very common disease in Liberia, which led to the infection of the Ebola virus. On June 17, the first death of Ebola occurred in Monrovia, when seven patients died of this disease. He was treated at the JFK Medical Center in Monrovia. In March 2014, Liberia confirmed its first case of Ebola viral disease (EVD). The impact of the Ebola virus in the most affected countries - Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone - is devastating. Liberia has registered more than 10,600 cases of Ebola and reported more than 4,700 deaths. But thank God; now it's all over. People of Liberia are living Ebola Free.
Beaches:
In Liberia; there are many attractive beaches in Liberia, but the Atlantic is prone to tides and other dangerous currents. Swimmers should be careful and consult local authorities before going into the water. Avoid canoes and fishing boats offering services to passengers. They are regularly overloaded with strong waves and currents. Miami Beach is one of the famous and crowded beaches in Monrovia.
Air Ticket Route:
Ethiopia Airlines via Addis Ababa. Royal Air Maroc via Casablanca. Brussels Airlines via Brussels. Kenya Airways via Accra and Freetown. KLM via Amsterdam.
Best time to visit:
The best time to visit Liberia is winter, particularly in January and February, which are the sunniest and least rainy months. The worst period is from May to October, although between mid-July and August, in the south there is a fairly significant decrease in the rains.

| LIBERIA SWEET LAND OF LIBERTY | Liberia struggles after civil war
Our next feature is from Africa’s oldest independent republic, Liberia. Believe it or not there was a time when Liberia, all the way on the west coast of Africa, was considered one of the continent’s most peaceful and prosperous nations, enjoying more than a century of progress and democracy. That was until one day in 1980 when, according to locals there, the devil came calling. Nearly forty years later, Liberia is still struggling to come to terms with its chequered past. Jeff Koinange was in Liberia recently and tells us what it was like then, and now. #LiberiaSweetLandOfLiberty

~Tarplah Coleman Memorial Academy ~ Beyond Classroom Walls @ the National Museum of Liberia
The Tarplah Coleman Memorial Academy, founded in 2016, to honor and preserve the legacy of Tarplah Sam Coleman (1967-2014) is a tuition-free school. With over 350 students (pre-Kindergarden through 7th grade) The resources available were; curiosity, ingenunity, the will to learn, talents, positive attitudes, and engagement. Therefore using the power of information, cooperation of Barchue Community parents, children and against the odds in preserving her brother's legacy on education, Tarplah's sister, together with a few family members and trusted friends, provided the necessary initial supplies and a place to provide quality education to the children of Barchue Community. Further initiative to take our children's learning experience beyond classroom walls was started; and a plan to visit the National Museum of Liberia was included in our plan of action. As you will notice our 5th and 6th graders were totally engaged, observant and held no questions back. They didn't only learn about Liberia's history; they experienced Liberia's history. Let's follow the students through the entire series of events and even you might get to know about how things are done and the way we were. Please feel free to like, and subscribe. Also visit our Facebook page for more information and let us know what you think about our journey. Please decide to be a part of the children's journey through our school and make a donation in kind, time, ideas, funds, school supplies, a school van, etc., which will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time

Rape Culture In Liberia
This was by far one of the hardest episodes I have had to do. The subject of rape is an international problem but after diving into the issues we face here in Liberia it left me with a sense of sadness and frustration. I am grateful to have been able to connect with the HEAL organization who has opened my eyes and I look forward to working with them in the future. This episode is pretty lengthy but is PACKED with knowledge I encourage everyone to watch, get informed, and get involved!

Liberian Cultural Dance- Balawala Malawala International Dance Troop
On this episode of Philimena.com I take you inside the Liberian cultural dance scene! Music and dance are an integral part of village life in Liberia. The people dance and sing for the departed souls of the dead, at celebrations and weddings, on behalf of important visitors, and just for fun. Liberian dances are often noted for the energy and passion displayed by the dancers. As with most African dance forms, Liberian dances often reference not just the physical, but the spiritual as well. These dances are a way to preserve and transmit important stories and traditions.
