Inscription on the Liberty Bell
In 1752, the Pennsylvania State Assembly ordered a steeple bell for the statehouse to include the inscription proclaiming “Liberty throughout all the land.”
The Liberty Bell at Philadelphia’s Independence Hall has become an icon of American history and independence. But did you know that in 2013, The Providence Forum commissioned a full-scale replica of the famed Liberty Bell for Museum of the Bible. It stands six feet tall and weighs 3,200 pounds.
The peal of the bell is in E-flat, the same key as its original. The Liberty Bell became the first exhibit to be installed at Museum of the Bible in 2017. Emblazoned on the Liberty Bell are the same words that appear on the original from Leviticus 25:10: “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.”

America's Liberty Bell Museum
This is the Liberty Bell Museum located right across the stree from Pennsylvania's State House also known as Independence Hall in the historic section of Philadelphia, PA. Admision to the Liberty Bell Museum as well as Independence Hall is free curtisy of the US National Park Service. I learned quite a bit about the bell that wasn,t taught in school. The most interesting thing was when I learned what the number 7 meant when Allen Sheppard named his capsule Liberty Bell 7. I never understood what the number 7 meant until I saw the short presentation on the history of the bell at the museam. Turns out that it came from World War 2, when the US would broadcast programs over the Armed Forces Radio Network from Independence Hall. They would close out each broadcast with seven strokes from the Liberty Bell. That was a recording of Franklin Delanor Roosevelt (FDR) striking the bell seven times with a wooden mallet.

Some Philadelphia History...
It's amazing to learn about history while in the process of making history. I was very inspired by the Liberty Bell and I think Occupy needs to build a liberty bell. :)

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

Allentown (Pennsylvania Dutch: Allenschteddel) is a city located in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is Pennsylvania's third most populous city and the 231st largest city in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 118,032 and is currently the fastest growing city in all of Pennsylvania. It is the largest city in the metropolitan area known as the Lehigh Valley, which had a population of 821,623 residents as of 2010. Allentown constitutes a portion of the New York City Combined Statistical Area and is the county seat of Lehigh County. In 2012, the city celebrated the 250th anniversary of its founding in 1762.Located on the Lehigh River, Allentown is the largest of three adjacent cities, in Northampton and Lehigh counties, that make up a region of eastern Pennsylvania known as the Lehigh Valley, the other two cities being Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and Easton, Pennsylvania. Allentown is 50 miles (80 km) north-northwest of Philadelphia, the sixth most populous city in the United States, 90 miles (140 km) east-northeast of Harrisburg, the state capital, and 90 miles (140 km) west of New York City, the nation's largest city.
The Norfolk Southern Railway's Lehigh Line (formerly the main line of the Lehigh Valley Railroad using former Lehigh and Susquehanna Railroad main line trackage), runs through Allentown heading east across the Delaware River. The Norfolk Southern Railway's Reading Line runs through Allentown heading west to Reading, Pennsylvania.
Allentown was cited as a national success story in April 2016 by the Urban Land Institute for its downtown redevelopment and transformation, one of only six communities in the country to have been named as such.
Traction Across Pennsylvania
More film from the lens of John Hand, this time a sampler of traction classics from across the Keystone State in the late 1940's and early 1950's, plus a few short clips at Bowest from Charles Houser. Sounds are from my video archives.
