Light's Vision
Colonel William Light is the celebrated surveyor-general who chose the site of the capital city for the colony of South Australia.
This short film explores Light's vision of Adelaide with it's squares and surrounding belt of parklands and how that vision has been honoured and comprised. Light himself has been commemorated with a statue that overlooks the city 'Light's Vision'. This film features archival footage of the statue in it's original location which was not Montefiore Hill.

Location info :
The first surveyor-general of Adelaide, South Australia, Colonel William Light designed a layout and development programme for the city.
This plan is now known as Light's Vision. Notable aspects of Light's plan are that the city centre is laid out in a grid-like pattern, with squares in the centre of the city and in the centres of the four quarters of the city, and the city is surrounded by Parklands.
Legend has it that William Light stood on Montefiore Hill (in North Adelaide) in 1837, pointed at what would one day become the Adelaide city centre, and began planning the city.
This moment is commemorated by a statue by Glaswegian sculptor Birnie Rhind on Montefiore Hill (moved from its original Victoria Square position in 1938), pointing at the City of Adelaide below. With the passage of time, both the commemorative statue and the piece of land on which it stands have also come to be referred to as Light's Vision, rather than its official full name Light's Vision commemoration.
Light's decision on Adelaide's location was initially unpopular among the settlers, including with South Australia's first governor, John Hindmarsh, but Light persisted and eventually managed to convince Hindmarsh.
Behind this statue (north and north-east) is Aquinas College, which is affiliated with the University of Adelaide.
To the north-west is Carclew. In front of the statue are parklands which include the Adelaide Oval and Memorial Drive, and, of course, a view over the Adelaide city centre which is the realisation of Light's Vision.
Colonel Light's Vision 2015
Once upon a time Colonel William Light had a vision of a city called Adelaide. He stood here on Montefiore Hill and surveyed the lie of the land as he planned an outstanding design that has stood the test of time. Luckily, the big white blimp of the new Adelaide Oval wasn't there to obscure his view. Today, Light sees little of his grand vision (and nor do the tourists....)
Geocache: Vision of Light [Adelaide]
Please excuse the wind throughout this video.
Filmed on location on Montefiore Hill, this is the statue of Colonel Light.
He was the founder of the City of Adelaide, and designed the city to be rather grid-like so that things were easy to find.
I find a local geocache that is incredibly clever.
Tour Down Under - Stage 6 Montefiore Hill
Stage 6 of the Tour Down Under involved 20 laps of the 4km course around the city of Adelaide. Tried to experience with getting a low angle. Peloton contributed by bunching up on this lap.
Adelaide Classic Scooter Cruise May 2009 - Montefiore Hill lineup
Classic Scooter Cruise, May 2009, Adelaide, South Australia. Some of Adelaide's classic scooterists rode to the National Motor Museum in Birdwood in support of the upcoming Australian National Classic Scooter Rally in October. If you were there, here's a memory of the day. If you weren't there, where the bloody hell are you?
ill Starred Captain - All Good Too Easy official music clip
The filming of this video was like a kamikaze raid on the streets of Adelaide before dawn, with no idea of what we were going to film as the word spontaneous came to mind. In casting an eye upon a sculptured sight we decided to entertain ourselves, to gain a reaction from the morning commuters to break up our normal flows in life.
We then seized the opportunity to say it's all good, too easy. Do what you do best to stay true for yourself and others. says Justin Francis
All Good Too Easy was filmed by Jason Mildwaters with assistance & humour from Justin Mildwaters. Additional cast, is Shane Labady & the statue of Colonel Light on Montefiore Hill, North Adelaide in 2010. The final clip was produced by Justin Francis & Scott Bassham with the final edit courtesy of Justin Francis & Jason Mildwaters in 2010.
All Good Tooo Easy, appears on ill Starred Captain's, Black Swan Eye album, Seawitch Music 2010.
