Vuurtoren / Leuchtturm Harlingen - Das etwas andere Hotel - Für einen Tag Leuchtturmwärter
LEUCHTTURM / VUURTOREN HARLINGEN
Leuchtturm Holland Niederlande Lighthouse Netherlands

HARLINGEN LIGHTHOUSE
Harlingen is a small picturesque town situated directly on the coast in the Dutch pro-vince of Friesland. The approximately 15,000 inhabitants live from the sea and tourism. The lighthouse is located high above the old Hanseatic city, between land and mud-flats.
A dream for two and no room neighbours guaranteed: vacation in the converted light-house. The light of the tower, built 90 years ago, went out in 1998 and soon after came to life again: as a noble lodging house on three floors with a lot of comfort and elegant furnishings. The highlight is the 20-meter-high balcony with stunning all-round visibili-ty. At the end of a splendid day sink into the feathers and look forward to the smell of fresh rolls that the lighthouse keeper will bring the next morning...
The luxury hostel on three floors has been extended with partly custom-made furniture. A steep staircase leads to the first floor, where there is a bathroom with round shower with wall heating, toilet and washbasin. Directly above the living floor with all-round glazing and a breathtaking view with a bed in window height, sitting area for cuddling and enjoying and a worktop. The third floor leads to the place where a lamp once burned. Under the original copper dome there is a table that is just right for romantic evenings. The absolute highlight is the all-round balcony at a height of over 20 metres. In the morning the lighthouse keeper brings the breakfast basket with oven-fresh rolls.
The lighthouse keeper, at the same time administrator of the lighthouse, welcomes the guests on arrival and can be reached at any time should you have any questions.
The lighthouse is equipped with VHF radio, telephone, videophone, TV, Quooker, wind speed and direction indicator and minibar.
In Harlingen there are three unusual overnight accommodations, all of which are li-mited to a maximum of two persons:
- Harbour Crane
- In the old lighthouse
- In a rescue boat in distress

(description below)
I'd like to thank my good buddies of droneshop.nl for keeping me airborn.
Wikipedia article on the lost land of Saeftinghe:
The Saeftinghe Legend is an Old Dutch folk tale that explains the sunken city of Saeftinghe in eastern Zeeuws-Vlaanderen near Nieuw-Namen, The Netherlands, that existed until it was entirely flooded by sea waters in 1584. The legends says the city grew to be the most prosperous city on the fertile banks of the river Schelde but the inhabitants grew vain and proud. The farmers dressed in silk, their horses wearing silver and even the thresholds of homes were made from gold. The wealth attracted poor immigrants but the people of Saeftinghe showed no mercy and chased the migrants away with sticks and dogs. Greed corrupted the hearts of men and turned them blind for imminent threats.
On a foggy day, a fisherman caught a mermaid on the waters of the Western Schelde. From the nets, the mermaid warned him Saeftinghe needed to change its ways or suffer the inevitable dire consequences. When the mermaid's husband surfaced and asked for his wife to be set free, the fisherman refused and yelled at him. The merman cursed the fisherman and his city, screaming The lands of Saeftinghe will fall, only its towers will continue to stand tall!
The people of Saeftinghe, occupied with greed, forgot to take care of their dikes. One day, when a maid went to get water from a well, she noticed cod and other fish swimming in it. The sea was nearing, the water turning salt. With the All Saints' flood (1570), a huge tidal wave washed over the lands of Saeftinghe, destroying the towns of Sint-Laureins, Namen and Casuwele, killing all inhabitants.
Saeftinghe withered and soon only its towers testified of its prosperous past until the city finally sank into the muddy swamps.
On foggy days, the tower bells call for help from what was once a wealthy place but is now a doomed world covered in mud, captured by the sea.
Wikipedia: Zeeland (/ˈziːlənd/; Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzeːlɑnt] ( listen), Zeelandic: Zeêland [ˈzɪə̯lɑnt]) is the westernmost province of the Netherlands. The province, located in the south-west of the country, consists of a number of islands and peninsulas (hence its name, meaning sea-land) and a strip bordering Belgium. Its capital is Middelburg. Its area is about 2,930 square kilometres (1,130 sq mi), of which almost 1,140 square kilometres (440 sq mi) is water, and it has a population of about 380,000.
Large parts of Zeeland are below sea level. The last great flooding of the area was in 1953. Tourism is an important economic activity. In the summer, its beaches make it a popular destination for tourists, especially German tourists. In some areas, the population can be two to four times higher during the high summer season. The coat of arms of Zeeland shows a lion half-emerged from water, and the text luctor et emergo (Latin for I struggle and I emerge) The country of New Zealand is named after Zeeland (not Zealand (Sjælland) in Denmark, as sometimes claimed).
