Jojoben.be 12/04/2015 Boat Trip to Historic Harwich
On a beautiful, but windy day in April 2015, the family decided to go on Victoria, the sail boat, from Ipswich to Harwich. It was an absolutely fantastic experience, but we did get quite wet, while the children were playing inside. With 20 kts wind and 29kts gusts, accompanied by 1.1 metre waves, we finally made it to HalfPenny Pier in Historic Harwich, where we had enjoyed ourselves a well-earned Fish and Chips and a stroll around town. It was an absolutely great day to never forget. We decided to show some of the action on the river Orwell and Stour to then proceed with a tour of town. We used the SJ4000 action cam for this movie.
Enjoy and leave a comment if you can.

EBF Secret Water Weekend
We launched Essex Book Festival 2019 in Harwich as part of our opening weekend, themed on 'Secret Water' to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Arthur Ransome's book, part of his 'Swallows and Amazons' series and set on the Essex coast.
Home to Christopher Jones, Captain of the Mayflower; Samuel Pepys constituency; a temporary home for 200 Kindertransport children in 1938; and the final Berth of Radio Caroline's 'The Boat that Rocked', Harwich has a compelling nautical tale to tell. Many unusual venues hosted our opening weekend, including the Harwich Connections 1912 Building, the Harwich Redoubt Fort, and the LV18, a former LightVessel that was used for pirate radio broadcasts. Thanks to all those who helped make it happen, including The Harwich Society, the Arthur Ransome Society, BBC Essex and Harwich Festival, as well as all the authors, artists and audiences who took part!

Lightship Gannet 1954 lifting
Happy to announce the lightship 'Gannet 1954' has been successfully lifted out of the water and placed at her final location in Holzpark Klybeck, Switzerland. After serving as a lighthouse at South Rock, Ireland, she will now be transformed in a restaurant and radio station (located in the lighthouse). Part of Saltwater Engineering’s scope was to determine the strength of the trunnions and the local strength of the vessel around these points. Thickness measurements, chemical analyses and tensile tests have been performed to ensure the strength of the material. Read more on this project:

Lightship 18
Lightship 18 is a very well preserved lightship, moored at Ha'penny pier in Harwich. The lighthouse was once used for the broadcasting of BBC radio and was the first lightship to become automatic. Today it serves as a museum to both the history of the lightship and of Pirate Radio and offshore broadcasting.

Trinity House Buoys (1966)
Harwich, Essex.
Several shots of buoys at a warehouse on the quay. Various shots show the Trinity House Vessel 'Siren' setting out to sea to carry out maintenance on buoys; a naval flag showing the Union Jack and the Trinity House Jack is hoisted; officers are seen using sextants and plotting their course on a chart. Nice M/S of a sailor tying on a life jacket. Sailors drop anchor beside a buoy, hoist weather balloons and ring bells on the ship.
The buoy is cleaned of mussels and limpets on the base, fitted with a new gas cylinder to power the flashing light and lowered back into the sea. The sea crustaceans are thrown back into the water.
Cuts exist - see separate record.
